A safe space to complain about jackass humans

I’m sorry this happened.
It’s extra scary with a kid.
That guy sucks.
Good job just leaving.

I wouldn’t consider such a thing as a counter to dumbass motorists, but for a while around here, folks that were riding in the hills would get their bikes jacked at gunpoint. That had me wondering.

Some of the bicycle Boomers around here have a little US flag hanging off their saddle. Supposedly it is redneck repellant.

Seems to be standard equipment for lots of cross country tourists. I’d probably do it.

Anecdotal at best, but a bud has done some touring with and without here in VA and swears it makes a difference.

It’s CA so sounds like you should be ordering a sword from Winter, since it’s valid for self defense

coworker nearly got flattened by a right-hook into a slip lane on the way to work late last week. The car immediately got stopped by a red light (classic) so he caught up and had a conversation with the driver. He was completely flabbergasted that the driver seemed completely unaware/unconcerned / blamed him for “not watching out” (for traffic behind him???) / suggested that bikes shouldn’t be in the road, etc.

Apparently this is the first time something like this has ever happened to him and he looked a little shocked when I blithely joked “and that’s when you put a U-lock through their windshield and ride off in the other direction”.

I’ve been getting the impression that ulock justice isn’t as accepted now as it was 10 years ago

Glad your coworker is okay and doesn’t stop riding because of this incident

Never bring a sword to a gunfight?

Ride by pepper spray instead of u lock?

Don’t know that it was ever really acceptable. Just as likely now as it ever was to get you shot/arrested.

The court of public opinion seems to be divided these days.

When the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem starts to look like a windshield.

The majority of the comments seem to be on her side (as they should).

I’ve been done with jackass customers since covid. I nearly had to toss a guy today for being a prick. People who abuse service workers are scum. and deserve every bit of “poor service” they get.

Spoken like a tall white male who has likely not received a fraction of the threats/intimidation women deal with on the regular.

Maybe he’s being supportive. I like the slogan.

It’s a play on Maslow’s hammer quote.

Do gotta say, that lady is an inspiration. I never keep my lock handy enough for impromptu justice. I did punch a mirror on a car parked in the bike lane the other day but I don’t think I broke anything… But with a claw hammer!..

Bro
I wasn’t knocking her at all. Just making a joke about the “when all you have is a hammer…” quote.

[edit] Guess a couple other people filled in the gaps for me
