A safe space to complain about jackass humans

This may be the wrong thread for this but the jackass I’m complaining about is me. I’ve caught myself being the jackass in at least half of my recent points of friction with other road users pretty evenly spread across driving and riding my bike.

I rolled through a stop sign and turned in front of a dude on a bike a little closer than I thought I was gonna, about as close as I would have if they were a car, which feels really dangerous on a bike. I was hoping they’d catch up because we were going past a school in a few blocks but they didn’t. I felt like shit immediately and wanted to apologize. I don’t know if I’d recognize them if I saw them again but I know they will recognize me.

Not to justify rolling through stop signs, I consider myself to be hyper aware of other road users. I roll through 1st gear coming close to a stop but never actually taking it out of gear just because it’s easier and I’m lazy. I don’t speed, I only cut off teslas.

I forgive you. Go and sin no more.

Hello fellow guilt feeler.

Pretty sure the driver of that jeep ran someone over shortly before I got to work

love the duality of

“this bike is hot”

as well as

“I would run over someone riding this bike”

Once again someone got confused about where the parking lot is. (Hint: it’s 30 feet from where you parked, right there on the west side of the bike path)

The guy who’s car this is was working picking up the last little bits of a trapeze that gets set up here in the summer and taken down in the fall. It’s stored in those shipping containers there. There’s zero reason for him to have parked there instead of in one of the hundreds of empty parking spaces right there in the huge parking lot.

Good stuff here. Of all the things on my mind right now I am most preoccupied with wishing I was there to shove her son when he attacked someone.

Was pushing the stroller back from daycare and was walking through this neighborhood intersection when I can hear a car behind me. I am a very bold pedestrian so I don’t check my shoulder and keep walking. I’m halfway across the street and look to my right to see a black SUV about to left hook me. This a 100% residential intersection in a quiet neighborhood and clearly they never even scanned the intersection before entering it. They stop about half a second from where I was about to be in half a second, car in the middle of the intersection pointed right at me. They start to roll their window down, presumably to apologize? but I’m already yelling THANKS FOR LOOKING OUT and they just let out this idiotic HuUuUuhh somewhere between a laugh and a wheeze

This is a dumb story but I needed to get it off my chest this morning because my wife gets mad at me for yelling at drivers but people need to feel some fucking SHAME over this shit!!! I see the local carbrains on reddit begging runners to dress like Christmas trees in the morning while 1 in 5 cars I see on the road can’t even be assed to turn their lights on before sunrise while we’re waiting for DST to end. Why should I even be complaining about this??? There’s no way they can even see their dash!! They don’t look, they just drive!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

ok I feel a little better thank you

I think the problem is that they can see their dash with all the fancy lighting inside most modern cars, so there’s nothing to prompt them to turn their lights on like with older cars where the dash illumination is tied to the parking/headlights.

That plus all the automatic headlight crap means they don’t have to think about it at all.

I was walking home last night and within the span of 3-4 minutes saw a driver for no reason very illegally pass a car going the speed limit by using the middle “turn in either direction” lane strip thing, then a person going perhaps 60 mph in this 30 mph zone. I heard the second one coming from behind and it took all of my willpower not to throw the takeout container I was holding at their windshield as they passed. Did I do the right thing?

Yes but only because it would be annoying to go back and order more food.

I spend a lot of time sitting on my bike at red lights contemplating whether my coffee thermos could crack a windshield.

Yeah I think so. I know I have been trying to temper my vulnerable-road-user-rage since I had a kid which sucks because I feel it SO MUCH MORE STRONGLY NOW!!!
