Thinking about this or this for the next addition to the stable, what with the getting hitched and talking about starting a fambly and all.
Goofy as hell looking, but from a functional standpoint they seem pretty cool. I check out tandems on CL from time to time and most of them are either total cheap crap or fancier than we need. The packability sounds awesome. A beater tandem for grocery runs and around town would be cool too though.
Anyone checked one of these out? Any general tandem comments/wisdom?
I want a tandem really really bad, I would ride it solo everywhere so i could volunteer to drive when I was hanging out with friends, maybe hook up the kiddie trailer.
Yea go with CL. You can get some old cruiser one for like 200 and put a little bit of work into it and it would be the ultimate friday night ride.
“Who wants to hope on my bicycle built for two…Ladies?” <–Thats Tandem Tarckbear
Packability would be cool for traveling/touring.
We are car free at the moment, but we will probably have a car again within the next year. I would not rather not have to mess with special racks, worrying about it getting messed with or stolen, driving into something low hanging, etc…
Takes up less space when not broken down.
Has rack and fender braze-ons.
Adjusts more easily to fit a kid.
Greater range of fit adjustment in general. She could ride it as captain with a few minor adjustments.
They’re nice people, at least from my experiences talking to their reps at shows, etc…
Yeah, tandems are cool. Rented one once and went 30mi with a gurl who deosn’t even know how to ride a bike. They actually ride a lot like a normal bike, only turn clumsier. There is a lot of responsibility (if you crash you can really mess up your stoker as they may not see it coming) but it’s fun.
I actually have a serious desire to go for a longish tandem ride with a strong rider and really hammer it… they’re a lot quicker than solo bikes. I’d even be willing to be the stoker (maybe). Alas, buddies who ride refuse to get on a tandem.
