Alien frames

tried making a thread about this earlier but my computer crashed right as i was about to press the ‘send’ button.

anyways, who’s planning on getting one? everything seems pretty on point. the geometry is pure track and matches up with the specs on my pista concept closely - 74.5 HT/ST, 28mm rake, tight wheelbase (55cm c-c specs). the frames are clean and the price is about right considering you’re getting a brand new frame. the tubing is nothing special but is certainly appropriate for a rugged street bike and the weight is 1,900g, about right for what it is (double butted crmo).

my KHS track is dying and due for a replacement before the end of the year, and i miss traditional diameter steel and lugs. so i’d say i’m on to get one of these and build it up in a classic aesthetic fashion. i also have come to the realization that i should stop pretending my KHS is a road bike when really fixed gears give a limiting effect on long road rides when the terrain becomes excessive on the long descents when you throw winding curves and switchbacks into the mix. do-able, yes; safe and/or fun, no. either way, i’m sick of having to map out all my routes before a long ride and figure out if it’s going to be rideable on a track bike (which is to say, something without sharp 1,00ft curving descents). so i’m going to get a proper roadie for long ride training and a proper steel track bike for around town riding, track training and alleycats.

who else is into these alien frames?

I seriously considered them as an option, but got a bangin’ deal on my bareknuckle.
I too just bought a “real” roadie in favor of my 77 schwinn tank. The knuckle is for around town atm because the closest velodrome is about an hour and a half from where I usually am :frowning:

I really like lugged steel bikes so I was pretty excited when my friend showed me these bikes. I preordered it and was expecting the frame a month and a half ago. I’m glad that the frames are actually being shipped now. I just wish Joseph would give better time estimates. Seriously doubt that it is a 1-2 week turnaround for powdercoating since mine was only drilled and it still hasn’t shipped. I just want my bike now. :colbert:

I’d like one of these as well.

group buy!

good news for us is that it looks like he finally got his shit together. it does take time to put orders in at taiwanese factories after all.

i’d be down for a group buy as well! i need to get off my conversion frame.

I just need another bike!

I don’t know if I should get this, the affinity frame I was gonna get, or a Dougmobile. CHOICES! D:

dougmobile is still out in futureland for now. he’ll get his stuff together, but before he starts building frames for others he’s gonna make some for himself first to learn on.

I dunno. I do like the frames, but by the time you bought one, had it powdercoated and bought all the no name “alien” components, I’m thinking you could have built a really nice bike.
I mean, you could buy a complete bike, like a kilo or the hour or whatever, ride it and make the upgrades as needed.

But don’t listen to me. I own a janky ass kilo built with budget parts.
