SO I am not opposed to contacting him. But I know that IF this were to roll, there is about 3 wks in October(5th - 25th wedding and honeymoon) when I would not be able to do any work on it. So it would be put on hold or not get really going until after this. I would be willing to put time in to organizing this after Oct 25th. Though I never organized a group buy before I would be open to doing it.
My proposal,
I will contact Alien If someone makes a poll to see what kind of numbers we might be talking about. I feel that it would be better to have some idea of what we are asking for. I think the more people interested the better the potential deal. I mean really if it is just five of us there really is no incentive for them to hook us up! But if we have 15-25 that is a different story.
we could leave the pool up over the weekend. I would then call early next week.
I hate the idea of needing to wrap and unwrap bars so frequently. I change out bars far too often for that. Any attractive quill stems with removable face plates…other than a out of production Nitto?
Also having a hard time deciding on a good crank set/sealed BB…

How are you guys going to build yours?[/quote]
What I would do is get multiple stems and keep different bars permanently encrusted in them. The constant supply of cheap secondhand stems from bike co-ops around here makes this more realistic and economical than buying new stems.
I’m gonna build mine up old-school. 32h Box rims, aluminum track drops for some days but probably bullhorns for most others, put in a few secondhand NJS goodies because they’re cheaper than going Italian… I basically want to emulate how my Anchor rode, which is to say it was decently light for steel but really ‘floated’ over bumps and bad roads with that vintage-diameter steel, low(er) profile rims and DB spokes. I miss that feeling.

Yes, this is the best answer, IMO. On my old conversion I had three different bar and stem set ups.
Quill is fucking classy but I’ve got to say I’m a bigger fan of threadless…
A thing to note is that the fork that comes with the alien is short and might prevent some headset options. I tried installing my 105 headset today and the stack height was too big for the fork. Anybody know any decent alternatives?
