All things NuMTB thread, now lower longer and slacker

There is one pretty Rooty technical trail in the city, but otherwise we have flowy trails that are more XC-esque than lots of up or down, so spinning on those with a steep STA seems a bit uncomfortable for me. I have a short torso and long legs and arms and the 0* offset post with a steep STA is very uncomfortable.

I will say that my Epic Evo 120/110 felt quite nice…

I think a hard tail with a bit of XC in it with a 120mm is the perfect bike for these parts.

Get an Epic Evo…again.

what are you…?

It has to be… artisanal? and not steep HTA? and FS? But not carbon or heavy? Am I getting this right?

Goldilocks wants a bike that doesn’t exist.

Best guess I have here is like an old 26" dentist hardtail ala indyfab or litespeed

Ah wait an older Santa Cruz would fit the bill for old school angles and short reach with steep angles if it’s pre 2017ish. Tallboy would be perfect

This is some incredible dithering, thank you for your work

If this could work I’m not reluctant to sell frame & fork

I have the One Up EDC pump with the tool and a CO2 can in the bottle cage bracket, along with a water bottle. My riding pack has the spare tube, tire bacon, first aid, snax, and extra bottles as required.

Other than occasionally forgetting to transfer the pump between bikes, it works.

that’s also much shorter reach than any modern Honzo

so matches his rejection of current progressive geometry

Ultra may be the right call. Also I have a stooge mk4 that’s pretty dang fun without a front fork, and a stooge ti too to build up soon.

Niner SIR9 looks decent too, kind of $$$.

Chameleon is a great frame, I’d get one if I could find a frameset

I’ve got a 2006 Chameleon in a size Medium that might be exactly what you’re looking for!

Gonna mention Ibis again cuz they make bikes for people who reject modern geo but want a modern bike

Ooh, the SIR9 mention got me thinking. Something like my 2016 Rip9 might also fit the bill. Modern suspension, with old steep geo and shorter reach.

I know you said no carbon, but scalpel SE is also good full squish with 74* sta effective. Not full XC steep, but still peppy for midwest ish.

That’s a nice looking bike, like an Epic Evo too
