All things NuMTB thread, now lower longer and slacker

Hell yeah

Was thinking I was going to get a decal kit for it but I kind of dig this.

I need to consult the hivemind.

For a galoot my size, i.e. ~300 pounds, what fork has the best balance of stiffness and support, and performance at higher pressures?

Since I’m mid-50’s now, I’m slowing way down RE taking risks on the mountain bike, so I don’t need the top of the line any more, but I’ve heard conflicting things about how well the 2nd tier of the big makers function (i.e. Lyrik).

I’m also contemplating a frame swap to a longer travel Banshee, so a fork that can be lengthened from 140mm to 160mm travel in a cost effective way is a plus.

Candidates:
RockShox Lyrik Ultimate
RockShox Lyrik Select ← Good deals right now
Cane Creek Helm MkII
Manitou Mezzer Pro
Manitou Mezzer Expert ← I can get a screamin’ deal on this one

This Team Volvo Cannondale is hanging in the service entrance of one the local dealers.

I didn’t ask if it belonged to Tinker or Cadel.

First ride on the new Trance today. Shock feels fantastic. Fork needs some work on it’s tuning, but overall no issues and the bike rides great with the longer travel.

Got unexpectedly really muddy and I felt bad being on the trail I was on.

How about this TAF Scalpel that Jolanda Neff is now riding?

i’m not quite seeing it, but I can’t get into lefties. i know they’re good forks, but my brain just hates the aesthetics.

it appears to be a RockShox Lyrik Suspension Fork - Ultimate D2 - 29" 140mm Offset 44mm 15x110mm - Gloss Black

Coil curious… current shock needs a rebuild…. This new shock would be about the same cost…

Is this the right coil to fit on it?

Spring rate calculator puts me at 350lb… dunno if that is ballpark or not.

i think we’re about the same size, 5’7" and 130lbs… i have a 350lb coil on my super deluxe with about half the turns for pre-load @ 30% sag… i reckon it’d be right

Absolutely get a coil, then send it away to get tuned. I was loving mine until I sent my lowly dpx2 to a suspension tuner and now everything else feels like garbage.

Their favorite is apparently the Bomber CR just because it is simple and easy to build on.

New on-one spds

Nvm lol.

I was looking at those last night. They look like the Exustar mechanism with an anodized body.

They look pretty good. I will likely pick up some purple ones for when I switch back to being a clippy boi. Was always wanting to try some proper platform SPDs and didn’t want crank bros. Saints did weigh a ton.
I also like how they were like, ‘embargo until 1/14’ then release the video of them on 1/13.

Are there any 1.25 tapered (100/120) forks available?
1.125-1.25

You mean a straight steerer with an adapter crown race?

Sure? I wondered if there were any with a 1.25 taper

Why? Just get your frame built with a normal headtube for a normal 1.5" taper fork

Cannondale was fucking around with 5/4" tapered forks in the early 2010s. There might be a Lefty out there for you.

I’ve only seen Rock Shox CSUs in 9/8" straight or 3/2” tapered.
