All things NuMTB thread, now lower longer and slacker

Dang, they ugly as hell, but probably pretty great with pants. Have the gortex but this was my first summer still running flats so went with cheap spec shoes and they worked. Did wonder about freerider pro. And good to know intel on boa running wide, coz I am still pretty narrow and low volume. Also don’t hate the laces tbh.

Oof, last race was kinda rough as i expected it might be.

It was like 95 degrees yesterday and I dont do well with heat, so I got there with time and tried to walk as much uphill as possible. I didnt want to carry 2 bottles, but i drank all my water on the way up (it is only like a 2 mile climb). Then somehow at the bottom there was NO water. I think this has been the case at the other races, but at this one racers have to park a mile away so my extra water was all at the car. They only had a cooler of beer and sodas. So i was dying with my throat feeling super raw and only had fizzy drinks.

As I was talking up my five ten love, i got a new clearance pair last saturday that i had only ridden on Monday and i wore them last night. Regretted this because they arent at all worn into the pedals and unlike sometime previously where they like glue on when theyre new and are too hard to get off, i was losing my feet off the pedals. On Monday, it happened once and felt like a fluke, but right away in the race I hit a small drop and blew my feet off.

So from there I was like I am just gonna go very slow and took it very safe. I rode the lines I wanted, but found myself braking harder than before. But I guess a safe run is better than one where you end up injured.

It didn’t make a difference in the end as my time was still good enough to win my age group by a fair bit, but it was not as good of a result overall comparing to all the women racing.

I’m feeling the inconsistency of my riding lately, but then again, I race at best 1-2 times a year, so it should be no surprise i cant ride reliably under the clock. This was why I quit racing enduros after doing like 2. I felt I rode worse if it was a race. Maybe it’s just a perception, I don’t know.

plz enjoy this random man in the background

i dont like to complain about prizes, but sometimes i hate getting cheap stuff more than getting nothing. 2nd and 3rd got small toblerone bars.

how does that paint all look brand new, including the original Manitou Dorado ?

The paint had a few scratches on the top tube, but the answer probably is he works at a bike shop. The fork was immaculate. Maybe NOS?

Lenzerheide was a pretty fun watch.

The late men’s race less exciting (though i was really holding on hope that someone else in addition to Asa could step up with a good result), but women’s race kept me on the edge of my seat. I thought I was gonna tear up.

Track was a little short for some, but i like lenzerheide’s extreme contrast between high speed jump sections and rock gardens.

I think pinkerton started off too slow and conservative - he was riding his way into a better position and ran out of track.

He just didn’t have the thought like Anna did that it wasn’t a winning pace in the first part. She said she was telling herself to let off the brakes. So she did just keep going faster through the splits.

Glad she is getting the coverage, the story of privateer to real team and then full break through.

Only watching women’s XC at this point. Stoked to see US women in top 10, and Blunk doubling up the podiums including that super duper close win in XCC. lol at 32" wheels eating shit in first rock garden of that race.

Yeah the women’s race was awesome. In men’s I want to know about coulanges. He was up by almost 5 seconds when he flew off the woodwork in the wrong direction. Keep meaning to see where that would put him at that split. And iles’s run had me on the edge of my seat. I thought for sure he was going to bin it.

Also related but not related, Kate Courtney just won US road national champs. She just started on the road, and won one of her first euro races. still world marathon champ now, I believe.
