I kinda like it
I know this doesn’t work on a lot of bikes (especially the small ones) but say you had the time and money: could a custom frame bag be useful enough to be worth the hassle?
I like my little frame bag. Keep tube, pump, sunscreen, and some munchies in there - maybe a rain shell. I don’t even notice it when riding. Honestly the biggest problem I have with it is not loading it up with stuff unnecessarily.

The osprey backpack is pretty nice. It’s not the part that touches the back I worried about. It’s just having something strapped to you like that.
I’m intrigued. When I was in the infantry we used something very similar and it was great. Ima pick one up and see what we see.
I was in between the medium and small Ibis Mojo 3 frames and ended up getting the small because the short ST and HT were better for me, but I almost got the medium just because of that little Pork Chop bag that Blackburn makes special for Ibis.
There are very good reasons that they don’t make it for the small frame (i.e. it wouldn’t even fit a tube), but I’m very jealous of people that get to use that dorky little bag.

I actually didn’t really like mine. Due to the tubing shapes, the back was smaller in the very middle, so the effective space wasnt that big, and the way they made the entrance (just a zipper slit) made it really hard to get a tube into it - and once a tube was in there, also hard to fit anything elsein the rest of the space. Really the main issue was the zipper, couldnt really spread it or open it in a way that allowed you to get things in and out in any kind of efficient fashion.
Feels good back on XL life. This bike is so fast it’s a little scary. Having owned a lot of long travel 29ers I can safely say this one checks the most marks, so far. Super jumpable, fast as fuck, and somehow still soaks up all the trail and let’s you get real dumb on line choice. Front end comes up really easily when you want it to and somehow, just somehow it climbs. I think it climbs a little better than the e29 even. But fuck, it’s just so fucking fast.

Sad I couldn’t get to the jekyll 29 demo/cannondale dealer event today at mtn creek today. Really want to know what the 29 feels like since the 27.5 is damn good.
I am not tall enough to every really seriously consider a 29er.
just saying I will never have the turmoil of considering between the two.

Is love? I’ve only ever heard one person not like it but he used to write for bikeradar so I kinda trust him. I’ve always like giants and maestro in general. Always thought they’re quick to be overlooked although they’re rad.
I think it’s a great value. I can’t think of anything not to like. Frank had a giant for a long time and so did viggen.
Yeah, Giant usually has some rad bikes (if some look a bit cheap). I liked my anthem 29er a lot.
And the Trance 29er is really dope. Surpassed my expectations by a mile. With a brake swap, it’d be a ripper. Didn’t love the reign sx, but it was a large, and maybe a coil swap and a bigger frame would have been better. I enjoyed the trance 29er on the same blue trails at the bike park. (motobacon also was pretty impressed with it).

i’ve got a 650b anthem that i’ve flogged for the last couple years and it’s great, it is very poppy for an xc bike and does heaps of manuals

29 is faster, regardless of height. Unless slightly bigger wheels makes a bike completely unwieldy (it doesn’t unless you’re like 4’10), 29er will work for most people.
I don’t think the hightower LT i’m on now is the end all, be all of bikes, and i loved my ibis, but at this point i can’t imagine going back to 27.5 for my regular trail bike. the 29er just does too many things better without really much sacrifice at all. it still jumps super good. it gets around corners. i’m still equally clueless at tossing the bike around, but making more progress/learning more about bike control on this bike than either of my last two 27.5 bikes…

YMMV. Sold my 29+ for 27.5+, was a way way way better choice for me. Wheels are more manageable. Bike more manageable. I’m 5’11" and 225lbs. Not a small guy. But Moira destroys trails on her ElMar 29er and she’s 5’6". Just depends on you in the end. Amy’s right though, it’s not a height thing, esp in the realm of super slack front ends anyhow. Her 29er is a bit faster and more nimble in places, but I can go more places and handle different terrain better. My bike climbs a bit better.
