asploded bike parts thread

Emailed the info@elephantbikes first, then John directly the next day, yesterday morning. Still nothing.

Seems weird to me too.

mtb frame is dead, killed by chainstay crack:

R.I.P. green Chumba

Nooooooooooooo!!!

deciding what to do with the parts now + what frames I should be on the lookout for

WTH. Sad day.

Also part of the NFE fork fail club. I checked mine on the regular. The crack seemed to form from the inside out. Lug lickers are on borrowed time. The unicrown forks rides better because it’s a bit stiffer. The old fork deflected a lot more under braking.

Maybe it’s be imagination, but my unicrown fork somehow seems to track better, but rides noticeably worse (which I attribute to increased stiffness).

I like the bike better with the new fork. Maybe there’s less vertical compliance. It might be argued that the old fork had too much compliance, especially towards the end of its life span. Glen and John provided a loaner fork while my replacement was being built. The fork failed in a controlled manner, but it happened right at the beginning of an all day ride. I don’t think a zip tie would have be enough.

what about some twine?

twine alone is not enough

Can I take this opportunity to sing the praises of the H/G fork?
Because I’ve never ridden such a confidence inspiring fork. I dunno if it’s the through axel or what, but man does it track well through corners! And despite the beefy looks of the thing, it doesn’t ride like a stiff brick at all. I dunno how they did it.

Holy smoke and BMX magic.

I’m buying one as soon as my paycheck comes in. Braden, hold one for me!

echoing rusty’s sentiments. tracks awesome, feels maybe(?) less compliant than my soma grando fork was but with 47mm tires it seems kinda moot. i’ve said before and ill say it again- pretty sure it’s the all around best bike i’ve ever owned. i’d love to hear what someone who has been on both the elephant and the endpoint thinks

I have a feeling the my mind will be blown the first time (someday soon, praise tarck) I dive a HG into a high speed turn. I’ve got close to 15,000 in the Rawland noodlebike and that thing does NOT track well when cornering hard.

So I put too much weight in my Swift Zeitgeist and bent the Carradice Bagman mount almost all the way to the seatpost. AND one of the quick release things already died long ago, just riding along (I actually found it on the side of the road and zip-tied it in place).

I can post boring pictures later. Suffice to say, not worth the $70 I ebay’ed it for… I’m gonna hacksaw the racks off the mount and just use the very top to loop the Zeitgeist straps. Should be actually pretty great like that.

So you weren’t using the supports?

No. The 5 other models didn’t have them  I assumed it wasn’t going to bear a lot of weight, but I was wrong.

that rack is extremely not my shit
