lol

I’m not a luglicker by any means and I know full well that the unicrown is the fucking king of forks. But god dammit is it ugly.

The only time I think about my unicrown now is when an original fork breaks.

Ya know what’s not ugly?

Actually, it is kinda ugly but in a good way.

they did exactly that

complicating matters, a number of luglickers are being obstinate about accepting the unicrown into their hearts and continuing to ride the original
Ben Rainbow straight up told me he is ditching the NFE once the lugged fork breaks because he isn’t keen on the unicrown.
mmmmokay there buddy. Surprised to hear that from him, of all people on this minty green earth.

Is there any particular reason that they chose to go unicrown on the newer forks? It seems like the lugged crown has nothing to do with the failures, and it certainly does look nice.

that particular lugged crown is the exact Root Cause of the failures

it has an oversized nonstandard socket for the blades, with only the one option for them, that’s butted to the same lower dimensions as classic 531 or Columbus SL

for many years it was also the only option for a wide crown with a 9/8" steerer

Pacenti had exclusive distributorship of his design so when he failed at another business you couldn’t buy it outside of east asia (only became available again this year)

I’ve always loved segmented forks despite my hate of unicrown.

well damn

Yeah, they are definitely taking the failures seriously. when I emailed John a few months ago, I specified that my fork hadn’t failed and I just wanted to get on the list for a replacement. I think Glen was having some personal stuff too where he couldn’t build full time. Expected to wait a bit, no big, and got an email back thanking me for my patience and understanding. Then like two days later I got a tracking number. A+

The unicrown fork, while of questionable aesthetics, is both lighter and stronger than the old one due to the new fork blades. I really wish they could do a fork with a fabbed crown similar to the lightning bolt though, that thing is pretty dang attractive.

It’s a special crown with a 25.4 blade. There’s only, one blade for it and I don’t think glen copus has the clout to have a better one made. Also I believe the unicrown forks started before the pacenti mtb crown re entered production, which is I think the only other crown with that kind of clearance

I don’t understand people who have an affinity for lugs. I guess I prefer functionality over style

I chuckled.

Two if you count the 25.4 tandem chainstay. It’s thicker, but I think that’s cancelled out by the shorter taper. I haven’t had one in my hands to be sure.

A fork made with those blades would be way heavier than a unicrown. To my memory, the taper wasn’t much shorter when I used it, but the upper section above the taper was much longer. I can measure when I get home. It would have also been a lot more work for glen to fit it in the crown.

I chuckled.
No u don’t.

Going on day 3 of radio silence from Glen/John post fork-asplosion.

I get that it’s a small operation but to have no response whatsoever is pretty annoying.

yeah it looks pretty weird especially after bending, is waaaay heavier, and it doesn’t really fit the crown sockets without some blacksmithing

Weird, how did you contact them? I sent John an email and got a response within minutes.
