Babby, It's Cold Outside

Colorado peeps:

Just searched on amazon and looks like they have reusable microwave versions. Not sure how well they would work. Do you have a microwave on both ends of your typical ride? You could have a set of chemical warmers in the bike bag and use the reusable hand warmers most of the time.[/quote]

I’m making my own w/ brown rice and socks, just gonna toss them into my bar mitts and make a toasty neoprene oven.

also, 1st sub 20F ride of the season.

babby it’s warm as shit out today!

yeaaahhhhhhhhh!

I’ve had a peacock for decades now, gets used sparingly, maybe next winter I’ll break it out again

I’ve got a Peacock too. Had it since the mid '80s. And I’ve never actually used it, cos live in Australia and I don’t mind cool temps. But for some reason I can’t get rid of it - just in case.

Yo b-roll, I got a pair of Trash Bags Picker Mittens for those -40 days and they are seriously the business. Warmest handwear I own by far. You could also take a pair of Bar Mitts and arts n crafts some fuzzy stuff to the inside?

will look into it. Maybe some Owens Corning Pink fiberglass…

I started wearing my dirty hi-viz defeet gloves this week

also started wearing my vest for the first 80% of my commute, but I peel it off on the last big hill I climb

also wearing toe covers erryday

this is about as harsh as winter got last year

Yeah, it has been brutal. I haven’t had to go to work, so I haven’t been faced with making a decision about which conveyance to take in order to get there. Now, I will be working on Capitol Hill, and am left with no choice but to ride or take an hour long bus.

I finally busted out the campy dayglo bibtights this week. Feels good man.

Here’s a cool article about how winter is awesome and everyone should quit complaining and go outside and have fun.

50f and sunny this morning. I was commuting in a t-shirt and jeans with the amazingly excellent Giro Hoxton LF gloves when I passed a dude wearing a full face balaclava, ski goggles, a bigass parka, ski pants and bigass boots. WTF I would literally die of overheating if I tried to ride a bike in that getup even in the deepest depths of winter.

Rode in to work this AM in a t-shirt, icebreaker wool hoodie, down jacket, with Belgian cap and wool sox. WAY too warm. Might not wear either outer layer for the ride home

Always-too-hot crü unite!

Always-too-hot crü checking in

There is little doubt I get out in cold weather but let me tell you. 6 straight days of rain followed a 40 drop in temperature makes even being inside miserable. Luckily 60 mph gusts on the front end of this system blew the roads dry so everything isn’t covered in ice.

Snow just flew in.

Fender chat: Would it be stupid to lay a line of hot glue on the edges of my fenders to reduce spray?

Sounds reasonable to me, do it and report back!

It was cold and wet this morning and I couldn’t find my trusty Ice Ninjas. Ordered two pair for $6.45 each.

Best winter bike glove.

I’ve been super satisfied with the Ninja ice on chilly/wet rides too. Best non-cycling winter cycling glove for the PNW. Your hands may get wet but at least you’re warm and you can quickly wring-out the accumulated water during a stop. It’s awesome to hear they work in legitimate cold weather towns too.
It’s been the winter revelation this year, along with the boot/glove dryer in the garage.

I wanna get some full dips.

Been in the low teens all week. 6deg on monday. OOF.

Interestingly, I was way colder doing a workout at 30deg on the rode than I was commuting to work when it was 11 deg out…
