Yeah I have a rim brake and disc tabbed cdale that would be perfect with one of those rigid 29r forks, the surly someone put on there is not enough sus correction for whatever headshok was on it originally, but it would make a mean machine if I ever have the money and gumption to do it right.
I usually grab a size larger than what I “should” be on if I were using it for actual MTB-ing. That way I can run a shorter stem+swept bars which leaves lots of room for a big basket.
@johnasavoia what C’dale frame do you have?
There are a few Cannondale-made aluminum rigid forks with disc tabs that might work. Or the Gusset Jury rigid steel segmented fork looks cool to my eye.
Since we are posting our own bikes here, I’ll throw this in. I’ve since changed the handlebar to a Space Bar, along with a shorter stem, but otherwise it’s the same. Nothing special to it, just a shitty frame with parts from my bin, to replace whatever non-functional parts came with the bike when I got it complete.
While we’re on the subject, here’s my Paramount basket bike. Converted to 650b with one of those Soma lowtrail for some reason. Really considering relacing the hubs to 26” rims for a lower BB, but ultimately I don’t care enough. Probably going to swap out the Jones bars at some point to, but I like them well enough.
Or, with a Velo Orange Poilet 29er fork (which is non suspension-corrected and has a lot of rake), you can turn an old 26er into a pretty reasonable el-cheapo “allroad enduro” low trail nerd bike. On my trashbike, I calculated 70.5° HTA → 72.4° HTA, and 83mm trail → 43mm trail. Drops the BB a fair amount as well, which is good since I’m not mountain biking on it anymore. It rides way better than it has any right to.
Not sure of the exact year, but similar to this, disc and canti studs. 1999? Guess its an f700 probably.
Weird headtube, but its got a reducer for a standard 1 1/8th. I think this era headshoks were 80mm travel, and I think the surly fork I have on it is for 80mm sus correction, but something isn’t right because the top tube is level and the bb is low as hell. Doesn’t ride good as is, so its hanging up.

I think you’re pretty close on the year. I EP’d a black F500? CAAD3 for a friend in ~2000 with v-brakes and disc tabs.
I was convinced my CAAD5 w/ Ultra Headshok was 100mm
…but a little google-fu is telling me you’re right, 70-80mm based on the model. The Lefty forks jumped up to 100.

please figure out a way to set this up with double brakes
I’m on the lookout for a Clydesdale fork. I can’t help myself. I don’t need it but I want it so bad.
I’ve almost bought one like five times, to en-cargo my crosscheck, but now my heart is set on one of those ridiculous Bilenky front loaders. You know, after I buy a Yuba Supermarche
Why the Bilenky? I’m not a fan of those in-between front loaders. All the disadvantages of a Cycletruck mixed with all the disadvantages of a Long bakfiet style
I’d have to look at the geo again, but it looked like a better option than a Soma Tradesman. I’m curious about semi-cargo bikes. What would you recommend?
I always ask myself:
- Does it have a linkage rod in the steering?
- Does it have a high cargo platform?
If the answer is yes to both of those then the bike has a shitty design. It is too long to easily carry up stairs and has none of the loading advantages of a cargo platform with a low center of gravity
Oh man, I do t even have a frame to hang it off of and I want one too.
that’s really great
Fucking this 100%. First thing people need to ask themselves is what they will use the bike for.
Can you elaborate on this? I know nothing about cagro bikes.
Most front loading cargo bikes have a linkage rod that connects the steerer attached to handlebars to the steerer attached to the fork. The exception is for cargo bikes like the Crust Clydesdale & Cycletrucks which have extra long steer tube but work like most bicycles.
Here is a perfect example of a dumb design using a linkage rod:
Here is a good design using a linkage rod:
If the linkage rod looks like a swift kick could damage it then it’s bad.
