bay area tarck

Uh, so I moved to Oakland. Meeting up with TCB tomorrow to grab some shifts. I don’t really know anyone here and from what I can tell everyone are either commuters or roadies.

mtb time amirite?

We’re all over. Lazy at gathering. Little bit of everything, but oogensssss is the resident gnarbro.

i just play one on tarck

everyone else is faster than me in all directions. I’m best at spending money

but i’ll show you around the little shuttlepoach I know

also I dont know where they came from but I need like 5 less s’s in my name

@motorbacon: I’ll probably begin climbing in about a week or so. Let’s ride, I think you’ve got my #.

@straws: welcome to Oakland! I’ll be happy to show you around the area and or get shitfaced with you sometime!

@tarckbros: my friend from school which I haven’t seen since the opening of I think Premium Rush rides bikes too! Yayyy!

he shot me a text the other day and expressed desire to climb Mt. Diablo. He resides in Davis and I presume rides mostly on the flat sections only. Do y’all think descending the mountain would be an issue for someone like him with limited downhill experience?

Old ladies in neon vests don’t seem to have a problem with Diablo.

Yeah just don’t pretend you’re a better descender than you really are.

Link up with Milin.

God damn our descent down Diablo got hairy. Major kudos for sticking with me though until your tire exploded.

Yeah, I’m in BC/PNW right now with fam. I’ll be back in CA on the 19th.

Diablo is really fun, but if you wanna hit it, I’d do it early. It gets uncomfortably hot this part of the year past about 11-1130 am.

I know a few routes in Oakland that are really fun and you can bail at like 15-25-40-60 miles depending on how far you want to go and how much time you have. I also know a pretty cool route through the oakland and berkeley hills and then up and down some fire trails that’s doable on 28c tires (or even 25c if you don’t mind going a bit slower on the hardpack dirt)

I’ll be looking to get some last minute miles in before I put my bike away from outside rides for a while as med school starts heating up.

Mt. Diablo descent isn’t too crazy if you take it slow and your buddy is willing to brake and knows how to distribute weight through the corners. If not, tell him to weight inside arm + outside foot all the way through, brake before entering corner and not to touch em while turning. Cars can be a problem re: staying in their lanes sometimes so just staying in control is fine, and stopping partway down to rest your hands can be good. It is by no means crazy technical.

Does your buddy in Davis ride with the team at all or go on any of the group rides? If so I might know him?

Berkeley Hills are my favorite riding on the east side of things, Marin is beautiful as well. Haven’t ventured to south bay much at all except to hit Mt. Hamilton and there’s some rad stuff in SJ/Livermore - I can find a link to my ride a few months ago that hit some really scenic stuff out there. Otherwise further east there’s some fun riding out towards the waterfront in Martinez/Crockett as well. Dunno much about riding in SF proper besides heading out GGB to hit Marin and JMP/Skyline type stuff in Oakland.

South bay is hot as well. From Oakland, there’s Alameda for a flat ride, or the hills. Take any one of a number of good climbs up to Skyline, ride around, then coast back down.

Speaking of, Imma head out and get some.

'sup y’all. Barbecue at my house tomorrow. Imma make some punch, pulled pork, brisket, and maybe some other things.

^ knowing you and maybe your penchant for specificity I’m sure it was delicious!

@millin: worddd. And here I was thinking I just being a softie; I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who thinks it’s hot up there.

@james: appreciate those tips, thanks! we ended up not doing Diablo or any riding period. Don’t think he participates in group rides but I think he’s frequented your shop at Davis. He’s the one with the OEM Kuota crabon frame w/ Rival?

oh right, hey y’all lets ride next week?

YOOOOOOOOOOOOO bitches. Road ride tomorrow?

Where when got work but can do evening

Shucks. Was going to do a morning ish ride.

Maybe, possibly.

Damn, bet this was good.
