I’m so fucking salty about my Lake boots.
Today, the wire that serves as the lacing system snapped on the right boot.
Not in a balls-out, uphill power sprint, mind you, just cruising along at 15 mph.
Maybe stay away from fancy lacing systems on cycling shoes you’re gonna wear every day and run around and up and down stairs and shit?
I feel like alot of cycling shoes are not built for daily wear and a fair amount of walkin’ around.
Since this Lake debacle I’m hesitant to invest (again) in expensive shoes.
But I’ll be damned if I don’t find myself looking at Doms on the web every couple of weeks.
I think all winter shoes just suck. I have the Sidi winter boot and am equally disappointed.
But can you at least wear them still?
I’m back in my beat-to-shit, low-top, mesh specialized shoes with three socks under em untill I figure something out.
Tbird, check out Specialized. I really love mine. They’ve lasted over a year of nigh daily abuse and were only 70 dollars(!).
I have the Sonomas, I think.
Also, I don’t think size 48 dominators would fit you, Tbird. I wear an 11-11.5 in US Sizes and I wear size 47 (Genius, Dominator) and 48 (Diablo) Sidis.
Most bike shoe companies pimp the guy’s with the bigger feet. The majority of companies don’t make bigger than a 48. I you can find some local I would try on some to see how they fit. I just took a chance with my sizing and it worked out. I wear a 14/15 in street shoes (depending on brand) and have two pairs of size 50 Sidis (bullet and older Dominators) as well as a size 50 Northwave road shoes. All three of my riding shoes came from ebay, the most expensive was $70 for the Dominators. The Bullets were the only used pair, the rest were new.
How do I know how wide my feet are? I mean, a better question is how narrow are regular width Dominators? That Wiggles option is looking mighty nice, but I’m afraid I’d need a mega width. There’s a shop about a 18 mile death trap ride away (could take the train, just don’t wanna spend the money) that has lots of shoes in my size in stock. But for not as cheap as wiggles, the shop has Dom 5’s $209.
The Dom’s and Specialized Comp MTB are the only one’s that appeal to me. The Shimano M225 would be nice if they were not silver…
Tried on a pair of 47’s with the normal width and only my toes were bunched up a bit, width wise they felt fine. So I got the 48’s off Wiggle, came up to $152. Fortunately I didn’t have to pay, hoorah for uncles and late birthday gifts!!!
I tried on the Doms a few days ago and didn’t really like how they felt on my feet.
I don’t really know what it was, but they just weren’t comfortable.
I got the specialized mountain comp instead and I love em thus far.
