Day: Ruined
gave any thought to where you might head?
I just made a test account with tredict to try out
(if you try it, use my code Training planning and analysis for endurance sports - Tredict )
and one with intervals.icu
(you dont need an invite but they also have referral links: Intervals.icu Sports Analytics and Planning)
intervals.icu is very data heavy, but not super great UI. kinda feels like a modern alternative to golden cheetah. i’m ok with this.
looking at adding both of these services as third parties to our app.
I’ll probably go back to pulling the files over USB into Golden Cheetah. I still do all my planning in Excel sheets and Google Calendar.
I fooled around with intervals.icu, but like you said, it overlaps a lot with GC.
I’m very fond of intervals.icu, but you’re right about the UI.
Golden Cheetah, I haven’t been able to tolerate in years. 'Course I dropped the money on WKO5 at some point, but these days I ain’t training anyway.
Me either, but I’m still trying to be not slow. It’s rough having years of data where i was kinda quick and seeing the low numbers now, but i know where i need to be to at least still be on the fast end of the casual riding group.
Fortunately, I was never quick.
You’d think that if I lived riding bikes so much id actually have some kind of talent for it, but nope.
I might look into this for my XC bike. The Stages I have seems extra susceptible to water ingress.
still got the o-ring?
Yeah, the o-ring is still there. I think there’s a small gap between the arm and the pod.
I could send it in for warranty, but I did a factory install. I’d need another arm while it was repaired.
Hmm, they are pressure tested with positive air while submerged so unless something happened after it left the factory its usually the door/o-ring.
Turn around is pretty quick on a repair so you’d probably only be without it for a weekend, but you might want to wait until the new year. But send me a DM if you go that route because CS is very far behind so your ticket will need a nudge.
Great quote, think it was on the Marginal Gains Podcast: Powermeter numbers are like tatoos, they look really good when you are young.
I swear that hill climb series I did a few weeks back has lifted my power a bit.
as a person with tattoos and many power meters, I take double offense to this.
Geologically speaking, you are still young. I guess we could do a bunch more metaphors. “Looking at powermeter numbers when you are old is like listening to the news in the morning. It’s all bad” .
Its true. I still have time for my tattoos to start to look bad
If I wanted to spend 10-15 hours a week training, I could get my power numbers back up, but i think i prefer the life balance I have now where I have time to participate in other things.
Exactly. I sometimes think about the guy who would always beat me in the TT nats. I never came home one day to find that my wife had sold the house and moved out. There’s a limit.
I was just talking to a coworker about this and he mentioned how his training ruined his marriage. Hindsight is 20/20. He’s been divorced 9 years now and realizes finally that it was a big factor. Was leaving his wife at home with the kids for 4-5 hours a day on the weekends to go on training rides. The kids are grown up now, but I think he spends a lot more time with them now that he’s quit racing.
RIP bike snob but one of his funnier quips was something along the lines of “most people just need a power meter that displays ‘YOU SUCK’”
Its very common I’m afraid. I only ever rode once in the weekend and before the kids got up, so I would always be able to do their sports stuff. I see cratered marriages all around with the folks that are my peers, and I would say cycling is the main cause.
Yeesh, this is all too real.
My one day that I get to ride for any length of time is Sunday where I have until 10am which was a hard won concession. Most other days, I’m home before the kid wakes.
If my sleep is messed up for whatever reason though and I struggle to get up at 0600, then I don’t get to ride, which reminds me. My sleep has been messed up lately and I need to get the trainer set up so I can preserve a modicum of fitness.
I’m back on my 6-8 hr/wk training plan with two indoor interval sessions and two outdoor long rides. I’m trying to get at least one MTB ride in on the weekends.
For whatever reason, I always end up with a rest week between Christmas and New Years. The weather has been shit, but I won’t have to do my long rides before everyone wakes up this year.
