Bike Apps or How to Ruin Your Ride With Data

Dam that crank looks rotorish

I wish there were more options for 48/33 or 46/30 rings

The Croder 46/30 rings I just took off my bike were working perfectly with Force AXS despite being technically outside of SRAMs recommended range.

Do they fit on a 110 bcd spider pm?

Shimano 110x4

Is that a 1 piece thingo?

Two separate rings. Fits their 110x4 spider or Xcadey power meter. . Same bcd as Shimano road. But chainline gets fucky on a Shimano crank.

Jävla helvete!

Does anyone use a non-GPS speed tracker for their GPS computer? I feel like I should be able to get more real/consistent speed data with something like this wahoo speed tracker as opposed to just relying on the GPS signal? Because I know my speed is not actually a bunch of spikes and troughs like this.

yes, but.. what would you do with this data?

IMO not worth the hassle of installing speed sensors on bikes. it’s just another thing to break or have the battery die.

I have a wheel speed sensor on my bike

speed is often a bunch of spikes and troughs

Ok. Thanks y’all.

I don’t really have a plan for the data. I just wish what I see on my results more closely matched the real world. And since I can see places where the GPS signal isn’t constant (straight lines on my route when I’m going around corners) I thought a more reliable speed sensor would give me a better speed readout. Maybe even a better distance value?

But it looks like that isn’t going to happen.

Why doesn’t my speed graph show a smoother curve anyway? I know the computer records my speed data over some interval so it’s all discrete data, but why is no attempt made to smooth it out to make it more realistic? Maybe it’s all just me and no one else cares.

That’s strava’s choice to not smooth. Everyone handles it differently.

I know Garmin can do “smart interval” vs “every second”

does your device do every second? have you popped open a raw recorded file and looked at the entries?

maybe a wheel speed sensor will give you what you’re looking for. try it out!

I’ve got a wahoo bolt v1 and haven’t dug very far into the things it can do. Will look into it.

My 12 year old Edge 510 is finally kicking the bucket I think, GPS is failing to record my route even though it says it’s connected to satellites.

What’s the Tarck recommendation? Rockbros?

If you can, connect the device to your desktop computer and do a sync with Garmin Express desktop app. After a full sync, go outside and do an activity and see if it tracks u fam

if I were to buy a new computer today I would probably get the coros dura just because it seems interesting

or maybe I would do more research first and decide on something completely different

Coros is interesting, but I’d avoid it right now, given that it’s taking them months to patch major vulnerabilities: COROS Confirms Substantial Watch Security Vulnerability: Says Fixes Are Coming | DC Rainmaker

If you’re not wedded to the Garmin ecosystem, I’d argue for the Hammerhead Karoo.

This is why I run a wheel sensor. Heavy tree cover, especially when damp, can interfere with the GPS signal. This way, I at least have a reasonable idea of how far it is to the next cue.
