Sorry if we have, there is so much bike all day everyday over here that I forget stuff like this. That’s cool, I’ve been digging around for the authentic scoop on the acquisition and everyone I know at Cervelo as only been there for the past 4-7 years, so post acquisition. The vibe I got is that the test team/curmudgeony crowd got sifted out and the (imo) strong current product team took shape. I have also been told they were asked where they wanted to be and they determined San Diego was the best place to be close to their customers. All in all, Cervelo peeps seem like they are in a good place, and Pon treats them well. FWIW, we are a profitable business, but I have no idea what the future holds, however I am optimistic. So much better than going to some venture bullshit trying to get into mobility.

The absolute worst. I agreed to do a shoot for Porsche Experience Center when the Taycan debuted, and of course the e-bike they had was a VanMoof. And about twelve sizes too big for me.
After like a hundred takes, the videographer asked me if I had brought a bike of my own, and we just swapped it in.

I like a lot of the modern flat bar gravel bikes mostly because I like old mountain bikes.

some other mainstream bike mag came in with “gravel bikes exist because modern mountain bikes make most trails boring” a few years back.
Bike industry is going to have to put some muscle into keeping people from collectively looking at their gravel bikes and being like “$4000 hybrid?!?!”

While that is mostly true, mountain biking back in the day was largely relegated to horse trails and forest service / fire roads. It wasn’t until later that bike-specific trails started to get built.
Since gravel bikes basically are ridden in the same places, it makes sense. GCN’s take was that modern MTB is boring, so buy a gravel bike to spice up your life.

I did not receive that at all from the text
that was their tagline - that it was boring because the bikes are so good. Trails that were challenging in the 90’s are a cakewalk now.
modern mtb on fire roads is boring. but trails have changed significantly over the time period.
