Oh yeah my brain went to operation not investment. “I honestly believed that hot dog cart was a million dollar opportunity, your honor”
wish them the best. i’ve never really had a good experience when I was there but I know plenty of folks who like the shop well enough. I’m thinking they’re trying to capitalize on a hot (but cooling) new bike market, but even with that, there’s no way they’re worth that.
classic case of “just feeling things out. send offers but no lowballers i know what i have” imo
I’m not meaning to throw shade at them at all, hope they and all the other shops do well, but that price was eye opening and doesn’t really match what I’ve read about owning/running a shop. The assessed value of the building/lot is only 25% of the shop asking price and there wasn’t a separate listing for that last I checked so maybe it’s not a ploy to sell the RE off to a developer. Or maybe it is ![]()
Also, lol at the name of the LLC that owns the building. And OMG they’re in the same location that Pioneer Hobbies used to be in back in the late '80s. They were the start of so many r/c car wallet fires starting when I was a kid.
Interesting look at what the Transcon is like now
it seems as if it’s managed to avoid being total circus. I like that there’s a pretty well defined ultra endurance racing circuit at this point. It would be nice if it stays kinda ramshackle and grassroots. I’m not looking forward to an announcement that one event production group is taking over GDMBR, Transcon, TABR, and SRMR or something. Unless it’s Red Hook, they really know how to turn something fun into a soulless oversponsored guardrailed mess, just like we all crave.
Ha, memory unlocked. The local r/c hobby shop started carrying KHS when I was deep into buggy racing as a kid and exposed me to better mtb stuff. They were also where I picked up my first pair of SPD shoes…some very 90s Alpinestars, I think.
this is about 9.5 out of every 10 shops I’ve ever been to.
White with the multi-colored “confetti”?
The Silk Road race is on now too. My buddy Steve was in second the other day but he’s dropped down to 4th. Must be hard being a vegan over there!

I was wrong, they were Answers.
But someone needs to bring back this colorway:

Yup, that’s them. Loved mine (even with the weird plastic 2-bolt LOOK ‘off-road’ cleats).
We interrupt the current gravel beef for this special interest piece, containing a dog, a cargo bike, and a lot of poop barning.
Normie stories about bikes, but a fun quick read.
More #gravelbeef. tl;dr: relationship accelerated, skipping final feed zone
gravel worlds? theyre just making stuff up now
Next some publisher will start a bicycle race to promote his newspaper!
It was all downhill after usac recognized single speed cross as a legit national championship race
man i should really go back and give GW another shot. I DNF’d about 2/3rd of the way through in 2018 due to heat exhaustion and ditto in 2019 due to shitty nutrition planning.
The Thudbuster ST and LT models represent about 40% of Cane Creek’s business, Anderson said
“We sold the shit out of it (at Unbound), pardon my language,” Anderson said.
