It was a dumb PHP script that returned a random choice of couple tubing brands or sarcastic commentary

I wince at the turdliness of the steel tubing I’d have to use but I bet we’ll see someone do it in the next 18 months
Nope, I took his class and built my cross bike there.

Found it!
It gave a you a choice of tubing, then the “reload” button had snarky text.
This is particularly relevant to me right now. I’m thinking about doing a Bikepacking event called The Big Finish Line Party. The only thing that the people doing it have in common, is that they all finish at the same day at the same time. (Where my elderly parents live down south). It’s up to you to design your own course. I started mapping out some stuff last night. I figure that because I blew all my hols earlier in the year the best I can do is 2.5 days. Some of my older buddies are taking the whole week. I am looking at trying to fit in this track, Nydia Track. But was worried about doing it in the wrong direction. I got bit really bad like this once by doing a ride the wrong way, looks like Nydia rolls both ways. Think I will be taking the fully, sans-dynamo. https://www.trailforks.com/trails/nydia-track/photos/
In the moto world you’d just call this a rally. Not to say you should rename it, just that the concept is very similar but the execution is so different since (probably) nobody is riding a bicycle 600 miles a day to get somewhere
Ah, so you dont have checkpoints that you need to go to in a rally ? Oh yeah, I guess you have the final destination where you camp. I never thought of it like that.
That’s going to vary I guess, there are certainly events out there that are called “rallies” that have cue sheets and checkpoints. But if you are going to the Wisconsin Moto Guzzi Riders Rally, it’s basically a bunch of old farts who ride out to a field somewhere to drink beer and get high for a couple of days. One of the few things the boomers got right…
I miss my 79 Lemans. Agricultural and an ergonomic disaster below 100kmh but it was a fun bike.
My buddy who moved to Lithuania still rides a Guzzi of similar vintage, but one of the more “standard” models. He loves it (and loves working on it apparently), but I wouldn’t want that to be my primary bike lol. Though now that I mention it, his bike runs, mine are more questionable right now.
In the bike world isn’t it just a Flèche?
Interesting! I’d never heard of that. Accidently did a 24 hour Fleche the previous weekend.

all bikes are idealized springs with different geometry
he said all of the frame materials are stiff, with steel being the stiffest, and that tubing diameter doesn’t change ride quality on a steel bike. frames don’t flex, wide tires do. So if your bike seems to flex and respond to pedal stroke, it’s because of your tires not your frame.
that’s uh… not correct. wall thickness and diameter make a major difference depending b how they are applied. there are many more qualified folks on this forum to reply but that’s horse hockey
that’s not been my experience but I’ve owned a grand total of 4 bikes, 3 of them being steel. one of them has ultralight, thin tubing (columbus SL 8/5/8) and it rides way differently than the other 2, which had oversized tubing.
