Bike blerg thread

I read a “study” of MTB pros climbing on a regular bike vs an electric bike, and that was the general takeaway. They put out the same effort, but just went faster.

I cheated last night and used my motor to make the final 500 ft climb home.

My personal reference point for this is a ten day bike camping trip I did in the cascades with a few buddies.

Lots and lots of climbing and other riding on the trip and I was as strong or stronger than my friends and I had no issues keeping pace most of the time.

Except one friend was a lot skinnier than me and on every long paved hill, he just rode away from me like I was motionless. But in every context other than the long uphill, I was way faster.

Those were my “fat fit” glory days.

Im not doubting its harder for folks of substance… but how hard it is for you has no bearing on my personal preference…

I’m not as good at it as I feel like I should be. But I enjoy it for some dumb reason.

I did kinda start enjoying it on my local dirt access road, since I very rarely encounter vehicles and am just alone in the woods with my hyperactive brain for a little bit. Toward the beginning of winter I started listening to audiobooks while going up.

i really love riding up hills and down. it’s the flat parts I don’t like

IDK why but my long heavy full squish MTB goes up hill better than my lighter rigider Crust. I don’t consider any of it “fun” but one certainly climbs better.

suspension keeps your tires in contact with the ground and helps keep your pedaling motion smooth rather than everything bouncing in this or that direction

Yeah I actually like climbing even though it triggers intense self-loathing and a desire to never see a bicycle again for at least as long as I am doing it. Even when I was good at it!
