Bike blerg thread

Two things ripping my nighty right now.

Poms saying “sat” in placing of “sitting”. “He was sat on the side if the road.” Other nationalities are picking it up now.

The pronunciation of niche, is the other. Its neesh. Not nitch.

I saw an Atlantis parked outside my work the other day. I’ll try and get a photo of it

I think it’s just the more casual, non-intellectual sounding way of saying ‘cycled’, which is what American english seems to do - crush things down to the most informal, least snooty-sounding way of saying it.

it bothers me when people say words out loud. any words.

like shut up. that includes me.

nitch has been around for a while, incorrect as it is.

I think that’s a completely different word

And it’s pronounced “deesmal neesh”

I’m kidding.

My smart copywriter friend and I were just discussing this recently. I use both pronunciations dependant on use.

For the more traditional uses, I default to “nitch”.

The closer it gets to slang “that’s genre is pretty NEESH” the more I go that way.

If you do it any other way you are probably wrong. :colbert:

He told me I am overthinking it though.

Is this where we complain about Australian children’s books and how sometimes the rhymes don’t work unless you read like you’ve been kicked in the head by a kangaroo?

Compromise and say neetch

I wonder if using “cycled” came into favor to indicate specifically riding on a bicycle, because for hundreds of years prior the only thing you would ride to a friend’s house was a horse.

Ha ha. Even if god is dead, you’re still gonna kiss his ass.

God forbid. Always my favourite saying from the Sopranos.

I think biked gets used a bit here. " How did you get to work today? Car or bike?"
“I biked”. I think its pretty common. Not neesh at all.

Hit me up if you want a genuine head-kicked Prison Islander to read to your kid. Better yet, my daughter can do it. She sounds like a Bluey character.

I will say “I’m going to bike there” but will never ever say “I am biking there”
