My buddy has a Jimny which I believe are banned in Europe due to shit economy and dangerous shape in an accident. He’s also a climate denier. Anyway he went on a hiking trip and said after, I had to be careful with the range of the Jimny, as it can only do 300 kms on a tank. I said, have you thought about an EV Dave? His reply. I thought you might say that…
That’s ridiculous.
186 miles? Jesus that’s like an 8 gallon tank or something
I had a Geo Tracker that I despised for a few years. Tiny, janky car and despite being tiny and janky I don’t recall it ever getting better than like 25 mpg (and that’s without even having an AC!). Looks like it had an 11 gallon tank, but I think the gas mileage was actually worse on the highway, so frequent gas stops would have definitely been a thing if I had been brave enough to actually drive it on the highway
Goddamn I hated that thing. Watching their prices tick back up a few years ago when everybody was going 4x4 crazy really threw me
40 litres is equal to about 8.8 imperial galaxy gallons (or 10.6 US freedom gallons). [1, 2]
What’s worse is last year Dave offered to drop us at the airport. It could not fit a half-sized bike box in the back, you know the ones that will only fit a frame. Its also noisy and harsh as fuck.
You can fit a full bike box in the back of our prious.
Jimnys are banned in the US for those reasons, Euros have more freedom to drive shitboxes.
it was the cheapest 4x4 you could get until the dacia duster came along.
cars were worse when my friends had vitaras, and samurai/jimnys, but the times were better.
I’m hate following the agility-in-the-desert fixie bois on insta. They’ve already lost one rider at the very start due to visa issues, apparently will join them “in a few days”.
Thank you for your service, I look forward to further updates.
I would buy a Dacia Duster
oh wait, it’s already taken

IIRC it was pulled from the EU years ago because it can’t reach mileage targets, and there might be a Jimny EV coming back soon.
Hearing the rep that it’s easier for a shitbox in the EU is surprising, cars seem far more regulated here.
stock image, but I did a full frame swap on one of these at work. Shockingly straightforward, took about 6hrs. I still don’t love bleeding Magura brakes, but if anyone has 2¢ on that besides “tip the bike vertical and keep the lever pulled for ~10min” I’d love to hear that.
I am probably totally out of date, i’ve been in America for a minute.
America is pretty restrictive about imports due to reasons other people can explain better than I, something to do with chickens.
Crash regs are different, headlights are different, and airbags are stronger because New Hampshire doesn’t require seatbelts to be worn. The Jimny can’t pass crash regs in the U.S. and there’s not enough margin there and it’s too small and cheap for it to be worth federalizing. and the chicken tax.
Surly is teasing a Bluelug collab…maybe a limited Cross-Check run? Another Steamroller color?
There’s a whole group of Samurai rock crawlers that meet at the OHV in the Tillamook Forest. Though, calling them Samurais is not completely accurate. The only Suzuki part left is the body.
I know one of those dudes
He was a superintendent at my last job
Loves rock crawling
It’s a steamroller in brown colorway.
