lol
she should just get a mercian trike
lol
For someone who advocates just getting on bikes and riding just for fun, she sure does like to over-analyze things.
Dude, precise steering scares the piss outta me. Thatâs why I only use plywood forks on my bike.
At the risk of sexisim, in my experience this kind of over-analysis is unique to women and talking it out is a big part of it. Iâm sure there is a large portion of her readership that finds it very reassuring.
Dunno if its really a female thing. A lot of men get overly technical about things like this. How many conversations do we have about fork rake or the right size for a handlebar bag? But, we pretty overtly state our purpose to be disassembling cycling and discussing its various components. Sheâs come out pretty adamantly against just this type of thing.
yea, but have you seen how shitty her bikes are set up?
i would be embarassed to ride anything like that
Dunno man. Her bikes are pretty perfect, coming from a vintage/Riv perspective. A little too perfect if you ask me. Except the Seven of course.
I guess itâs difficult to articulate, but it seems that there is the more commonly male way of overthinking things which you have described above, and then thereâs what sheâs doing.
Sheâs discussing her thought process out loud. Many people would consider these things when going to their first group ride on a road bike, but not everyone would discuss them out loud, let alone on a blog. I think most of us would keep fears like this to ourselves (probably out of fear of embarrassment) and do what we felt was necessary.
Itâs amusing given all the overanalysis that she hasnât noted a legitimate woman-centric issue here. Part of the reason big strong former racers like Jan Heine and Grant Peterson endorse tank bikes is that theyâre big strong former racers and the weight of the tank bike is much less of an issue for them than it is for the smaller rider. I mean yes, of course the Seven climbs faster than the Rivendell for her, it probably represents 15% of her weight rather than 30%. Meanwhile the same Riv would probably represent, what, 20% of GPâs body weight? The implication is that the iBob-approved bike might not, lovely as it is, be quite the all-rounder for a bantamweight that it is for a bigger person, something it would be interesting to see explored, but which youâd have to have a bit of experience on different kinds of bikes to realize.
