new saddle time.
I weight 190, hip bones be a little wide.
Have used a turbo and a regal quite comfortably in the past but would like a lighter, more moderne saddle. sub $100
what are you guys using?
also DQ, do cutouts work?

Try a Specialized.
They make a wide range of awesome saddles for people of all shapes and sizes.
i liek selle SLK
they expensive but i have yet to pay full retail for one
seems like people are always getting rid of them
i think they come on a lot of womens bikes and teh women just sell em
but they work well or me
i liked the turbo, but i only ever used it in sweet fixie with jeans mode.
had a hard time finding a saddle i liked for my road bike. I mostly had problems with going super numb in my junk, I think because i’m not very flexible in my back so instead of curling over to the bars I rotate forward on my hips and put too much pressure on my package.
used a toupe for a while, helped with numbness but I didn’t care for how flat it felt. so far i’ve liked my carbon aliante the most (stole it from a bike i got for my girlfriend, she’s not gonna need it). i’m sure the plain aliante will feel the same though (don’t know if it has the kevlar hammock business though)
Turbos and Regals are both on the firm/wide side.
Aliante seems a bit wider than a lot of other modern saddles. Can’t speak for the firmness though coz haven’t ridden one.
I am a similar weight but a bit narrower. It’s all about the classic Flite for me. IIRC (and I am old enough to recall when it came out) the original Flite was designed to be a “modern” Turbo. Seems to be the same basic shape but you do notice the difference in width if really out on the nose.
I’ve been through this a few times.
San Marco Ponza. Good shape, but the padding was too soft.
San Marco Ischia. Too “rounded.”
Selle Italia XO. Not wide enough for ma hips.
San Marco Rolls. Too “rounded,” and too hard.
Selle Italia “Man.” Not enough support in the cut-out area.
WTB Pure V. Works well on my mountain bike.
Brooks B17. Still very stiff after 600-700 miles. Needs a setback seatpost and/or slack STA to be comfortable.
Selle An-Atomica Titanico. Has a very hammock-like feel. I tend to get hot spots after a few hours on mine.
I just ordered a San Marco Regal and Fizik Aliante Gamma XM. Not cheap, but supposedly quite comfortable.

Yeah. I have wide, wide hips and the Specialized BG line in 155mm are the only saddles that fit me.
Look at the Avatar Gel for long distance riding while still having a ‘roadie’ shape.
yep aliante looks like a winner, might be worth the extra bucks…
tho, im really tempted to go all out for the san marco regal-e
has anyone heard anything about Ritchey saddles? The Streem, in particular, since it be the wider one.
^ avatar looks good. different widths, awesome. kinda heavy tho…

I looked at them the other day (at Excel Sports). Harder foam than the Aliante, and a lower profile. Looked to be very well made, especially compared to some pricier saddles. The Contrail is wider, and might be another to consider.

Looks like they refreshed them again, but yeah, that’s the equivalent to the earlier model I have.
The shape looks exactly the same, the finish is a bit different.
I’m in a similar position to OP, I am 6’2 and 190 with hips a little on the wide side. I currently ride an arione and I love the narrow nose and flattness but it’s a tad too narrow at the sit bones for me. what kind of saddles would be similar but wider? Thinking maybe a flite or something, Ideally I would like to do a trade…
honestly, charge spoons and knifes are where its at. awesome shape and inexpensive enough to just give them a whirl
The Specialized Toupe is really comfortable, considering how little padding it has and how light it is. I like mine a lot… however, I was never able to ride a Turbo far before entering agony town, so maybe that wouldn’t do you good. I’m more of a Flite / flat and light padding guy myself.
I guess they don’t make the Alias anymore, but that was the happy and affordable model between the Toupe and the Avatar. Maybe check ebay/backstock liquidation places?
Oh yeah, I’ve heard that big hipped papas can do well with women’s saddles, which are mostly the same as men’s but wider.
Also heard good things about the WTB saddles, but never tried.
the Zero is classified as “flat” and a tad wider than a airone, i think…
and yea i was actually looking at charge as well. price is definitely helpful and the shape looks identical to the ritchey stuff.
but im currently swooned by specialized and their marketing coz fear of WEAKB ONERZ
flite made me go numb the fastest. shape felt nice on the butt, but my dick was pissed within just like 20 minutes.
aliante and toupe give me numbness if i keep seated for about 90 minutes to 2hrs straight. just gotta remember to ocasionally stand up and pedal a couple times out of the saddle to let the goods breathe
just wait until you think the saddle was for you and then suddenly your ass changes its mind
