heres a better one

Brohan Van Summeren

Holy shit. Looks like he’s riding a kiddie bike or sommat.

Yeah I crashed enough times while playing this game on my sw8 NOB RAKES fixie back in 2004*

*wasn’t actually 2004, but for the sake of invoking the proper image of my bullshit you should envision 2004-era fixies.

It’s early in the season here, I’m inflexible, new HS dropped stem 2 centimeters to approximately where it should have been. Feels pretty good but I’m concerned it may be just a little too much, like 5 millimeters? This is where I suffer at road biking. Stopped to straighten saddle and accidentally raised it a few mm. Couldn’t tell the difference.

No video or photo evidence to offer at the moment. Before the change I had a slightly acute elbow angle in the drops to get my knees hitting my chest. In same saddle position it is now a right angle or slightly obtuse. To determine minuscule adjustments does anyone have some subtle on the bike clues to help. Hoping to make final decision next month after stretching and riding a fair bit. Sternum puncher needs to gtfo.

Clues? Nah. I change my shit 5mm or less and ride it. Generally it feels like a world of difference. Gave myself 3mm more saddle height and 3mm more setback last week and I feel hella stretched out as a result.

So I have a pretty big difference in my feet sizes, left is 12us, right is 10 1/2us. Its not something thats really bothered my riding platforms or clips/straps because I don’t tend to ride as far on them and my feet can move around enough on both that I guess it doesn’t matter, but clipped in I’ve been getting some bad knee pain on the shorter side, and a weird soreness on my left inner thigh. I think I’m turning in my saddle to compensate for the reach difference. I’ve played with cleat position some, but don’t really know what I’m doing. I suppose another crank arm would do the trick but I’m wondering if theres anything simpler/cheaper than that. I know a lot of people have slightly different length legs/sized feet, any advice?

Are both legs roughly the same length or is there a large disparity there too? If you can get comfortable with both feet strapped to the pedals it sounds like the simple solution could be recreating the position you use for both feet. Another cheap solution could be going with an 11 for the smaller foot and reintroducing some wiggle room. Really it is too complex of a physiological issue to tackle here but I think you just wanted ideas to alleviate the discomfort.

Dema paid the big bucks for a fitting and ended up with his saddle cocked to one side. So don’t be afraid to roll like that if makes a difference in comfort.

dont fuck with the crank length tho

lolwut?
I don’t read this thread enough

Maybe he reverted back, and feel free to tell your own story at any point here J, but he naturally sits with more weight on one cheek. So the fitter gave him a couple degree lean to even out the pressure.

Wait, turned or tilted to the side? I feel like tilted would be the answer to that problem but how would you do that? Does someone make a 4 bolt seatpost?

I know a few guys who have been fitted with the saddle cockeyed

Usually it is a temporary thing to help straighten out ones position

gotta push my saddle nose down a bit to be able to roll hips forwards. Did wonders for my ability to ride a long reach and deep drop.

I struggle with that. Too far forward and I slide down and wreck my taint.

my saddle seems to be level but i find myself having to push/slide myself back a bit every few mins, what am I doing wrong? leveled it by putting one of these on top of it

Nose it up just a bit. Sometimes that’s the spot.

3 degrees back.

Dear Tarck,

I need your help. Somewhere along the way, I fucked up the fit on my bike such that a nerve somewhere in my tenderhole region is getting messed with. This results in mild but annoying pain ranging from my abdomen region, to my right nut, and sometimes down my leg. But never while riding.

To confirm, I have zero pain or numbness anywhere while riding, it’s only afterwards… like late at night, or while sitting at my office chair. It’s sort of like the feeling you get when you’ve been sitting or lying at a weird angle that’s caused your chonies to ride up and sort of constrict one side… not horrible, but uncomfortable enough where you want to relieve the pressure by moving said offending chonies to a new non-rammed-into-your-crotchal-crevasse location.

This issue was significant enough that I saw a few doctors about it, and got ultrasounds & whatnot to rule out a hernia or similar (I do a lot of cargo biking so it was a reasonable suspicion). And further confirmed by getting off the bike entirely for a few weeks at a time - discomfort went away totally, came back after riding.

The pain is more likely to occur when riding my Pelican road bike, and less prevalent when I ride my much more upright Big Dummy. That doesn’t make any sense to me at all but it is what it is.

I now have a 22mi RT commute and I would really like to do it every day because it’s fun and I love it… but already the discomfort is increasing and I’m concerned it’s going to get pretty bad, like back in the day. This discomfort was a big part of what caused me to back off from long distance riding on a regular basis.

I’m really pretty much at wit’s end but totally ready to experiment. I’ve been riding Brooks B-17s forever and they have always seemed to work… I’m happy to try some other solutions in terms of saddle and fit but after having fiddled a good amount I’m more confused than ever. It’s to the point that I’m ready to try a recumbent or even velomobile (shit I may do that anyways coz awesome). But I’d really like to be able to ride a conventional bike without discomfort and I guess I’m just asking for some ideas to help try and sort things out.

Thanks Tarck, I need the help!

Try something other than a b17 that lets you get back a little. I can’t use a b17 on my commuter without a way back post, and even then it’s borderline. Depending on position a racier saddle may help, though I’m not the guy to drop knowledge on which one you should try. Change one thing at a time.
