Why? Is it a weight saving thing?

It may save a little weight, but if you need the clamp it usually comes up a little heavier as a unit (not enough to mention, really). The nice thing is that you can swap the derailleur to another bike with a different tube set just by getting a new clamp.

I hate them on bikes with actual braze-on tabs, though. You can’t adjust the position of the derailleur as easily.

Is it just me or does it seem like by engineering “solutions” we end up engineering more problems to then overcome.

braze on derailers are nothing new. The only real problem comes with the proliferation of compact cranks and the bracket not being long enough.

Is this worth it?

Did you get it? Personally I wouldnt go for 10 speed because I’m a cheap bastard and wouldn’t want to pay that premium for cassettes and chains. In fact I’m thinking of bumping my 9 speed crosscheck down to 8…
