Geometry of the bike definitely defines how much joy I get from cycling. I don’t lift my leg over a bike unless I know exactly how much stack and reach and bb drop/height to expect.

…n bike slack made the argument to me a few weeks ago that gravel bikes are sooo much better now than so-called cyclocross bikes and I was like…. (Silence, no response).A whole bike generation brainwashed to think you need a special bike to ride dirt roads, and that before bikes with “gravel” in the name were being sold it was somehow unfun or unpleasant riding.I will not however defend canti brakes.

This is touring bike erasure and I will not stand for it.

…wer bb drop now than they used to? I thought that was an industry guideline that factory-made bikes stuck to. It was one great reason to get a custom bike 10-15+ years ago.Did a cursory check of my last non-custom cyclocross I mean gravel bike, a Lemond Poprad, and it has a bb drop of 74. Checked a Niner gravel bike since Kyle just mentioned it and it has a bb drop of 75 in small sizes and 70 in 56+

I dunno about geometry and all taht but the TCX0 I used to ride gravel before gravel bikes rode like a dump truck. A loaded Rob Roy felt more lively.

Yeah my 2011 CAADX was the worst bike I’ve ever ridden, I replaced it with a cross check which was approximately 200 times more lively. If this sounds familiar, it’s because I take every opportunity I can to trash that horrible horrible cannondale.

mine: ridley aedon.

the thing was early in the hydroformed aluminum days. it was slightly too big for me. it was the harshest bike i’ve ever been on. also the stiffest. cleared 23s. for some reason i commuted on it for a while with these really bad plastic fenders that basically didn’t work. to make matters worse, i commuted on the minuteman trail outside boston which has those little root ridges that all MUPs seem to acquire. my taint will never be the same.

I bought one of these

from some lady that came into the shop I worked at and I don’t think I made it more than a week before I sold it on craigslist for 1.5x whatever I spent on it. I am relatively YOLO-pilled when it comes to bikes but this was the first one I actively disliked.
