It looks like aluminium (and terrifying regardless of technique).

I didn’t even think you could MMAW (fancy name for stick) weld aluminium, and I take these images as evidence that you shouldn’t :grin:

I do now want to see optical microscopy of the welds (and radiography of the rider after some time) as I can probably write a scientific paper on the novel welding defects and hideously brittle phases and Inter metallic inclusions that may be unknown to science, but are almost guaranteed to be in those welds

Ehhh… guy might be overselling it. Northwest Hub a) isn’t a co-op but is a nonprofit, b) rehabs department store bikes for recent immigrants and low income folks and runs a skills training program.

Likely a bunch of Magmas and the occasional Nishiki or something. They do get the occasional interesting donation, but one of the staff usually puts those up on marketplace. Maybe they have some gems?
