Even though the organizers didn’t want it, the 2019 Sscxwc19UT will be in Utah this November. We got the story on how it happened.
Wisconsin Cyclocross schedule is out. My team’s race, GPJO, is October 19. Put it on the calendar if you’re in the area.
I’m pretty excited for Nationals being close this year. And the venue is pretty cool too. It could definitely get torn up, depending on the weather. There’s a couple of descents that will get gnarly. But it’s unlikely to become a complete mud fest like last year.
I was at Ft. Steilacoom in December last year just after Seattle received a decent amount of rain and the course held up a lot better than expected.
I’m really curious to see how the descents hold up after a weeks worth of intense, all-out racing. I’m hoping to make it out there (and to visit family, while I’m at it) but it’s very tentative at this point.
Just got word we got a title sponsor for our series. Fucking stoked. Now we’re can buy all the equipment we need.
HY! That’s a big step. Is the sponsor bicycle related or something totally different?
Yeah, the local bike coalition. We knew they wanted to sponsor, but when they told us they wanted title, we were taken back. And for more than we had proposed for title sponsor, no less. They asked for an equipment list for what we needed, which was estimated at $5k, and they said no prob. We got our 501c3, so that helps. Additionally, my road team is throwing in at least $2k, which we’re slotting as a presenting sponsor for one of the races.
Was at a local crit last weekend and the organizers sent people around the crowd with a bucket to raise money for a prim. It’s the first time I’d seen that done and seemed like a cool idea. Wonder if it could work for a cross race somehow.
maybe for handups? but then, maybe people would just do that on their own.
Yeah. I was trying to figure out how a prim would work in a cross race and not just target the folks who are already going to win stuff. Maybe a first lap prim?
hole shot or first lap preems (how do you spell this word anyways) are a thing in new england cyclocross sometimes. also preems for people who can ride a certain feature on a certain lap. in the mid atlantic i once won a preem for being the only person to pick a card up off the ground while riding
I was told it’s “prim”. But I don’t remember who told me that.
probably some primadonna
prime. aka bonus.
pronounced ~preem in french
Makes sense. Confirmed by Wikipedia. Thanks.
cx primes for holeshots are decent but do end up rewarding the same Big Fish that are going to win at the regional level. Rewards for being able to ride a particular feature, or, I don’t know, jump over a big foam cheeseburger with the most panache (spitballing here) are more righteous to me.
Always reward people for goofing off at races (but not going so crazy that they ruin someone else’s time).
I got running shoes for the first time since high school because I’m tired of getting passed when I’m not on the bike. First trip out lasted about 10 minutes.
I’m also climbing 16 floors of stairs at work to get the back of my calves in shape.
Dropping the needle on the Wide Angle Podium podcasts to get my ears in shape.
Now I’m researching tires for maximum tread and suppleness.
Hashtag crossiscoming.
