The weekly cross practice series is starting, I’m pretty pumped. Main goal is to hop barriers and find new depths of the pain cave.
I measured from the front axle to the canter of the bars on both bikes. CX was about 3cm higher so I dropped it a little. I realized later that this isn’t really gonna tell me much. But the lower stem feels a little better. I may take it to some trails tomorrow and see if I can get a better idea of what feels good.
Hopped a pvc barrier. Going to find things to hop more on the cross bike. The seat being in the way is real annoying.
Rode the CX bike on some green mtb trails. Feels good with the lower stem. Now it’s time to chop the steerer on a $400 fork.
They’re back.
Those would look real good with my new purple bike. I thought the jet was more of a low profile tread. Almost a file tread. The new version looks like a pretty nice all-around for the pnw.
I wonder if they finally fixed the tread to work on wide rims.
Considering they’re re-released and available in tubeless, I would guess yes?
What was the issue with the tread? Too narrow for a wider profile?
Yeah. The side knobs are not in an ideal place. Other than that I love them, so if they’ve fixed this issue I’m definitely on board.
Does anyone have insights on how Nats is going to be scheduled?
I see it’s Tues 10 - Sun 16. I want to get up there and can’t figure out if I’m going to just spectate, or jump in a race (or two?).
Last year on Tues was Men’s (23-39) non-championship race. Is that likely to be the only option for me? Beyond that, on Friday there was Masters Men 35-39 (1/2/3). I’m a 3, but would I still have to qualify for this race or is it open to any doofus who shows up?
I don’t know the answers to any of those questions, but I’ll be stoked to hang out with and/or cheer for you!
Any doofus that signs up! Haha.
Took the sscx on some green and blue mtb trails and it feels solid! First race is next weekend and it’s a flat, super open roadie course that will maybe have some significant sand portions. I’m looking forward to going in feeling good but quickly realizing that whatever fitness I think I have is crap.
Gonna race 4s and single speed every weekend I think. In one series my race will be at like 930 and 130. In the other it’ll be 930 and 1130 (just one race in between). I kind of miss GACX where for a couple of years my races we’re back to back. I could just kill myself for an hour and a half and then drink beer for the rest of the day.
Our race schedule lines up so that my wife and I get to race back to back in the middle of the day, so we don’t have to get up too early or stay too late. I still like hanging out, but nice to have the option to drop in and then bolt.
That’s awesome. But now there has to be tacos there. People will riot if there aren’t tacos.
At our last race we had tamale hand-ups, which are a little easier to handle on the go.
That’s not a tamale hopping barriers though.
