WTF? Why? Increase ridership or something?
I read something a bit ago that pretty much said because if they measure tires for everyone, a large percentage would not be able to race. There are very few tires that are a true 33mm on modern rims. The non-WC version of the Donnelly MXP on my Flo30 rims measured something like 36mm. I belive 35mm was the old rule for non-elite/u23.

I thought 35 was universal until a few years ago? But maybe that’s why all cross tires used to be made in a 32 and a 35. 32 for elites and 35 for everyone else. Then they went to 33 for everyone.
I can see 38 for masters because they’re old and not important (yeah, I know I could have been racing masters for the last 5 years, but I refuse), but why SS? I personally think it was dumb to make SS a real nats category in the first place. But now it seems like they want to half-ass it and not do the work necessary to treat it like a real category.
Collegiate is also included.

I’m honestly surprised to see Tarck pushing back on fatter tires. I rode 38s last season and had my best season. Loved 'em!
I don’t think it’s as much push-back as just surprised at restrictions for natz being changed. Elite gonna elite coz UCI-regulated. Like I said above, even 33mm marked tires measure above 35mm on a modern rim. For local USAC races, it’s up to the chief official, but only real harp is gonna be on the elite race.

CX Natz moved to Iowa City. Same relative case prevalence, just less restrictions.

Our final CX race of the season is this Sunday, I decided to do it, just so I could go in the draw to win a custom made frame… but yesterday we went to level 2… No meetings over 100 people. So, will need to see if it changes before Sunday…

Did my only race of the year today. Ended up dicing with this woman for most of the hour in A grade, and probably only beat her because I lost the front wheel in gravel and made her fall off. A few random pix. Zero mud. What really killed the dinosaurs and dynamo dude.

There is cross racing happening here but I’m not racing. Slightly too many Trumpies among bike racers here for me to feel safe not getting the virus

Yeah we not had a community spread case in 2 weeks so everyone has pretty much stopped using their tracer apps and is back to hand-shakes etc. This is probably our best venue and the whole scene here was started 10 years ago when LA’s old mechanic, fled to NZ because he reckoned he couldn’t get a job in the US.

At least USAC finally canceled natz. Which in turn made the last 3 scheduled UCI races pull the plug.
5 more WC races were canceled. Saw that Kerry Werner said he’s forgoing heading to Europe this season because the limited euro season isn’t worth it when he can only spend 90 days out there.
