I don’t keep stats or race but I always feel faster on the ss. No dropping into granny gears for a climb. Smoother and more consistent feels more efficient and faster. But if that were true pros would be winning races on them so I’m probably wrong.

Have tried to pick a gear and just not shift but it’s not the same

I know its not the same, but I have a loop I ride on at least 4 different bikes, and often push it hard to see which format is fastest. One day I rode it on my buddies SSer, which I had just retro fitted a sram red shifter dropper internal to. Despite crashing twice (cos his levers are non - moto) I did one of my fastest times, and I was not trying to at all. SSing just makes you ride more aggressively.

Not sure where to cat the single speed winners since they often only race single speed. Probably cat 2. I’ll give it a look sometime.

I feel like my results pointing to the idea that I don’t really know how/when to shift.

Kinda dull men’s race at Essen until the last lap, which was amazing.

Once again, to a greater extent even, my single speed was faster today.
Cat 4

Single speed

Mens and Womens at Ruddervoorde were both really really good. High speed, lots of tactical racing, always a fun looking course.

Pro racing has been great this season!

I had just about my best result today in what is supposed to be the biggest amateur cross race in the world right now. Cat 4 had 90 people and we were on the course with probably 60-70 beginners and clydesdales. I ended up 60 out of 90. Could have been better but the second torn on the course was a 180 that was all jammed up so I decided to run. I passed like 10 people and then got my cranks caught on the course tape. About 30 people passed my whole I got it untangled.

Cornelia got a good picture of me on the barriers. It was better before she sent it to me via text.

Ladies race was pretty incredible. Nail biter to the last corner!

Exact opposite of the men’s race. Why do people want VdP to Wout to show up to races? Every time they do it’s a snooze fest.

For real. There was a while where they were at least competitive with each other, but VdP has shown that he’s at a level even beyond Wout. Much more interesting to watch them in road races than cross these days

I don’t think most promoters do, especially given their appearance fees. So probably glad they focused more on World Cups.

Matty just wants to prove his form, win the rainbow stripes and peace back out in his Lamborghini

not questioning the motivations of those riders, just that from a fans’ perspective, its not compelling viewing

Final race in our series this year. I only did the last 2. Crazy course. Helped set up from 7am. Raced in A at 12:30, fancy dress for the final. Wanted to buy a dreadlocks wig and cosplay Tinker Juarez, who is actually my age, but ran out of time to buy one. Would have felt gross anyway.

Looking strong. But racing in long sleeve skinsuits while the spectators wear shorts and T-shirts makes it look like a very uncomfortable race.

Is it warming up right now over there? Our season is always in the early part of winter and ends even before the cold truly sets in.

Thanks Kyle. There were bits of frost on the course when setting up, but it was a nice day. Maybe a high of around 14 (non-freedom measure). There was snow on the mountains in the distance which helped put a bit of a chill in the air. We have this saying “You cant beat Wellington on a good day” #WOAGD. Which is largely because they are so rare. Spring is getting closer…
