Bikes aren’t for riding

I’m proud to admit that I’m a “two tandems” guy now…
The older Santana Sovereign was a wedding gift 7 years ago, and earlier this year we added the Cannondale MT2000 to our fleet.
I removed the V-brakes and installed 4-piston hydro shimano’s with 203mm rotors. Still planning to move the front handlebar to the back and install a taller stem/bar up front. So far the stiffness of the aluminum and the weight savings make it outshine the old Santandem by a long shot. Plus being able to stop without popping the tubes is nice.
The Santana is just so sweet though.
A MTB tandem is the ultimate trust in a relationship.
Those are so dope

@Rusty_Piton @russ Thanks! Thinking about selling it is a balancing act between sentimental value and actual safety… We’ve heated the front wheel enough to explode it on the descent into White Ranch
@yonderboy After 7 years of loaded and unloaded riding, I think we’re primed for some elevated levels of communication. CT segments here we come!
I grew up stoking for my dad. we did the local thursday night for funs mtb races in a place with nothing but logovers and rocks. got really good at dismounting.
the only times ive captained were for him and on mtb/mixed terrain and I think i did pretty well! (read: i didnt catapult my dad at all)
@Jacobell and I rode the 100miles of LuLackWycoHundo on a Burlee Tandem with 8spd. It sucked.
I knew a couple guys who were on a mission to do the whole C&O to GAP in one go nonstop (DC to Pittsburgh, something like 340 miles of gravel). They tried one year on their own bikes and failed, so the next time they tried on a tandem and succeeded. Sounded awful to me but I guess the bond of their friendship was good enough to be strengthened rather than hurt by the experience.
I haven’t done anything quite as long as that, but last year I threw a longer seatpost on the back of the Santana and my friend and I competed in the Lookout Mtn. challenge. Climbing up the 1,600’ wasn’t that bad but descending it was fucking terrifying! We did not win but were able to pass some folks on the flats.
Kurt and Miles attempted to join us on one of the nocturnal Jamestown 200k rides on the worlds worst tandem with only water and edibles. It took them 17 hours to ride 125 miles. The last we saw them was as they were entering Jamestown as we were leaving to head back. They got so stoned that in the middle of the night near Lawrence Lewis park they just pulled off the trail and passed out in the grass. The sun woke them up and the rode the last 35(?) miles back home.
That’s all I know about tandems.
Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.
Last time I was at Whistler I saw a couple heading down Una Moss on a FS tandem. That seemed crazy AF to me.
I can’t remember if I’ve posted this since I kludged this bar end shifter shenanigans to steal the front 2x lever for another bike.
But here are the terrible fenders again.
oh god, this has awakened in me a terrible idea.
Drop-bar with a 2x and dorper, 2x shakes, 1 bar end (either side but right side would be funnier). Right shifter does rear dr as normal, left shifter for dropper post trigger, bar end for front dr.
stick that cassette on an igh and add another shifter
It’s been done and doesn’t look too bad at all
Folx want shifting options
Would definitely need to be a 3x setup though
