Dammit: Post your bike

I find it impossible to listen to podcasts if I’m doing anything more engaging than like vacuuming. Just turns into endless rewinding.

Mindless vacuuming and cleaning is the only time I can listen to podcasts. Otherwise it just turns into background noise.

While driving or riding, my go to is an album or playlist that I know like the back of my hand. Just something to occupy my mind but with no surprises.

An earbuds on the non traffic side works for me. The traffic and riding sounds can be heard with the music going.

I’ve never actually had an issue hearing traffic when riding with both earbuds in. I get why I should, but I’ve never thought it was a big issue.

This is a great conversation about bicycles

my biggest issue is that I’ve never felt unsafe wearing headphones but I have had MANY scary incidents where a yelling person, barking dog, loud motorcycle, etc startled the hell out of me to the point where I could have crashed. hate that.

:atmo: the AfterShokz have been great for listening to podcasts at 3x speed…

I use the Bose athletic ear bud things. They don’t block any noise and I listen to music at a low volume in one ear. I usually ride alone. Hearing traffic won’t save you if somebody is going to hit you. But I can still hear it fine.

I wear one AirPod in the non traffic side with music and so my wife can call without making me stop.

I pass a ton of people with both headphones in who can’t hear me announce myself via bell or yell and it always startles them and angers me.

I tap my ear to indicate they may have missed a signal, but it probably doesn’t get the message across.

What are the good aftershokz to get?

If I’m riding to a ride and meeting up with people, I’ll throw some an earbud in, but once I’m with others, that thing gets out away. I will never understand people that ride with others while having earbuds in. Like, are they just there for the draft?

Here’s a pic of the bike made by blue collar bikes that my friend won in a raffle at a Sacramento meet your maker ride maybe six years ago or so

I can’t be the only one here who rides without earbuds and instead obsesses over every sound that their bike is making??

It me.

I can do all. Funnily on my last big poop barn, I totally could ride without buds, but on the occasions that I used them, I really did enjoy them, right up until the moment that I watched the one loose bud fall down and get diced into pieces by my front disc as I negotiated a closed gate…

The rest of the time I don’t use them, cos:

  1. I ride with a buddy or
  2. I sometimes commute, and I really need my wits about me and
  3. Its so windy here, you need to crank up the volume to be heard over the wind, which has to be messing with my hearing.

thats what the headphones are keeping me away from

in NYC the police give you tickets for riding with earbuds because they hate bicycling

hard to emphasize how ridiculous this is until you experience what people get away with while driving cars here
