You change gears by swapping the front and rear wheels.
Mostly finished up the 8yo’s new bike (need to get some different grips) It was pretty fun as both kids helped put it all together.
shift with a stick (to hold up the rest of the bike while you remove and swap the wheels)
they’re calling it not-so-rapid rise

I’ve been trying to figure out how I can have a disc brake single speed with two possible gear ratios. Not gonna run a 135 spaced fork to do it tho, we’ll not yet anyways.
Remember when people were running two cogs and two chainrings for four ultra-manual gear ratios?
Anything to not use a derder and continue to impress your aging single speeds pals.
Yea I do and I considered it.
I’ve run two different freewheels or cogs on rim brake bikes with flip flop hubs and kept a 15mm in my fanny pack. But now I’m going back to disc brakes and can no longer flip flop to avoid using a derailleur and shifter.
Sounds like it’s derder and shifter time 4 u.
I have some if you can’t find any to buy.
Wait why can’t you just put two cogs on a disc wheel and split the chain line? I’m sure you can get it close enough.
I’ve got a Salsa Enabler fork you can have for shipping if you ever succumb to this temptation
I have/do run double cogs and chainrings on my SS mtb so that I can choose between two distinct gearings with perfect chainline (34/19 and 32/21) by dropping the rear wheel without adjusting chain or stay length.
I don’t change during rides, but it saves a fair chunk of time stuffing around with chain whips etc in between rides on varying terrain. Definitely doesn’t look as nice as 1x1 though
This is the aforementioned bike set up with a 6 bolt fixed cog in lieu of rear disc/brake for a recent week long semi-desert ride. I left the cassette side cogs on as a flip-flop bail out in case I really hated fixie mode, but didn’t end up bothering with it
Milk crate basket strapped to the handlebars/fork crown was rock solid and rode really well over bumpy 4wd tracks as sprung mass with 160mm of squish working below
Despite pears’s hateration in this dancerie, 2x2 (as pictured on my Jones) works really well and is easy to change quickly. You’re worth it.
jesus christ.
Run a dingle speed. Just match the total teeth count on both combos. Or within a couple of teeth. I’ve done a couple. Easy as. My current one has gone back to a 3x1 tho with a locked out dangler and toe/finger change on the front.
34 + 19 = 53
32 + 21 = 53
I did some deep crunching once. Up to 3 teeth different can work I think.
