I keep wanting one. But I know they’ve got the leather washer inside that has to be replaced periodically and that bums me out.

Nope. Hence the dead-ender moniker.

Interestingly, Mavic’s system wheels have a smooth rim bed (not sure how they get the spoke nipples into the rim…), so there’s no need for rim tape. However, the bead hooks are presumably not designed for tubeless tires.
