i think they just disabled the changer and had a single cog and spacers

Yeah they just turned the gears off. Also, sup background Greg in a Poler skinsuit.

and rapha consumers/riders being dickheads/pricks surprises you why?

bike jocks are still jocks.

that tattoo is badass, would get

gotcha. brain wasn’t working today.

i don’t think there’s anything wrong with being a bit of a dick (when its more honest then being pseudo nice). the whole respect the dead concept means nothing to me…the thing about being dead is the deadnes of it. and if the family stumbled on the post i’d happily be the focus of the anger. its part of the grieving anyway and i’m sure my idiotic rants dont compare to the pragmatic unending realness of loss and grief. i’m pissed he died like that). there needed to be a respect the alive and the voiced concern for the context in which we bring people into rides. the whole bit about the bike set up is just that, if you’re sitting up top of a sketchy descent with a bunch of strangers and you can see someone’s bike as a tell… that maybe they might be in over they’re head… its much better to wheel over and have a word than to just tear off en masse in search of an epic experience that isn’t real anyway (also have a look at yourself before you clip in and get epic).

some folks confuse advertising for reality and then try and live up to the adverts (and it seems like its at a point in LA where there’s a lot of epicness trying to manifest). there’s just a little more room for some critical thinking where the romanticized ideals meets reality. our hobby and sport is growing and the advertising gets more seductive and creates a heightened reality (i love rapha)… but the truth of this is always about how we ride, where we ride, and how we make a context that focuses less on romantic ideals and more on not letting guys die their first time down a hill… when they’ve only been riding for two years and are a de-individuated person on a large ride that offers real consequence (the videos dont tell the story of that descent… but the slow average speeds do. most locals here cringe at the thought of including that descent for all the other choices).the guy that set the course for the ride doesnt evewn like it. i’m still getting hate mail on the post… but i dont mind it… for the dialogue that comes after. keep talking about it. we/seth re- named our saturday ride after roberto. we heavily police the ride and all are welcome. i’d rather be an asshole up front than grieve an honest mistake after. anyone that as issue is welcome to come out for a spin, a coffee and a chat. we can even climb las flores and go back down (at least you’ll know what you’re in for on the climb). the context is the ride. and no its not just that simple… but i felt it needed to ne said and to be provocative in order to be heard. flame away… just keep talking about how to sit on a bike, how to think about what you’re getting into, and keep aware of whether or not you’ve lost some of your judgement to the pull of the group and the moment. it doesnt get talked about enough these days… everyone seems so entitled to get their lance on… that all the other good stuff gets missed.

Welcome. Have a jar of crabon dicks on us.

Yeah. I think this stuff is worth talking about, and I don’t think the discussion is incompatible with recognizing and mourning the loss.

Ugh.

Fucking typical douchebag shows up to spew an opinion and then departs. Seriously, fuck you.

tl;dr
n00b forgets JOD and types a book

… um… flights are cheap. Come on down and see the road for yourself. We’ll all look out for you (not being ironic here.)… not sure what all the feeling in there is about… but if it’s directed at me… that’s a lot of boner about something. We can talk about that too. I guess the thing about being provoked is having to have a look at owning some of the feelings. The bragging about your imaginary time down the canyon because you’ve got something special so show us locals is meaningless. no one cares about your time… just like in norcal… no matter how good you think you are there’s always folks better by the dozens. fuck me seroiusly.
the counter to my point is that the ride route was a good idea. that there’s no reason to think about who you’re riding with when there’s no vetting of riders or context (which is the sort of natural selection that happens on rides)… as there is on local rides. that it was just an accident. that critical thinking and skill have no part in the conversation…and that none of this is worth talking about. even if that’s all well and true… you’re actually claiming you’re gonna be the fastest guy down a road you’ve never ridden with guys you don’t know. that’s kinda meaningless to everyone but you… and has nothing to do with re-thinking the best intentions gone wrong. and that in extreme circumstances little things like where yourhands are can have life or death consequences. thinking is the new staying alive on a stupid ride down an open road. Come ride the thing and then flash that anger sister.
