DEEP DROP Discussion

I want to try some traditional DEEP ROAD DROPS, as I have a hankering love for sprinting on my sweet fixies with Deda Pistas versus my Ritchey Ergo pros, where I end up sprinting in the hoods like an idiot. Unfortunately, Track Drops make lousy road bars, otherwise I’d be running those all day.

No compacts, no rando bars, no ergo stuff, just sweet belgian/italian style drops.

Been thinking about Deda Newton/3T Rotundo/PRO Vibe 7S (GLORIOUS NIPPON)/maybe something ITM (can’t think of any that aren’t megabuck k-sword).

plz add suggestions/p r o style photos of traditional drops.

Width?

3t rotundo. (i have a pair in 42mm)

Real deep drops have pretty much become passe in road, but yeah, 3T Rotundo are probably your best bet for ‘deep’ and ‘Belgium style’. Quotation marks because the traditional stuff was deeper, i.e. track drop deep but with a road bend at the shoulders.

But really, as far as a “sprint” bar goes, I can’t say enough good things about PRO Vibe 7S Rounds. Stiff, light enough, and super nice bend for getting deep into the hooks and going all out. FWIW I sprint ‘boxing style’ with my fists up like I’m ready to fight, but some people prefer to have their hands more horizontal and in that case compacts are a better fit.

Sastre rolls deep.

I’m pretty flexible on width, prefer around 42ish maybe 44 depending on bar.

Vibe 7s on the left, Rotundo on the right. Rotundo’s have the old school bend, Vibe’s have the new-ish one that lends to an easier flat ramp for the shifter transition (but may have less wrist clearance depending on where you hold the bar and how you sprint).

i need to get the vibe 7s, i really hate my road bars right now.

Thanks for that comparison picture.

I wish more stores carried “Traditonal” bend drops so I could test them out easier than “buy and love/hate”.

hmm, this thread has me thinkin i should put my rotundos on my cross

Cinelli 66 (Campione Del Mondo) - 158mm drop (compared to 3T Rotundo’s 139mm). Great bars, imo! And you can pick them up for $20 on eBay every week.

Vibe 7 rounds comparable to deda zero 100s?

I have a set of Vibe 7 Rounds that I tried for a day and didn’t like them. They’re 40cm. I was going to return them, but if someone rides something that narrow and wants to try them out, I’ll do up a Tarck deal.

I’ve just found that a compact bend is much more comfortable for me on descents.

Zero100’s are more EC90 SLX’s or Edge bars. Kinda between traditional and compact but slanting more towards compact. We’ll assume FSA Omega’s as the polar extreme of compacts since AFAIK those bars pretty much invented the compact category.

PRO Vibe 7s is a great bar that I ride the hell out of, but it isn’t a deep-drop bar by any stretch.

ritchey wcs classic -135 drop and the bend plays nice with modern hoods

i have some oval concepts r701 i think htey are.
classic shape and i think they are 144mm drop.
the shoulders are crazy square though…
i prefer their shallow drop bar, the shoulder reminds me of the giro de italia bars. awzm.

I’ve got the WCS Classics and the 3T Rotundos. Both feel really really nice on the hoods or the drops. But 135/139 considered deep drop? They certainly don’t feel very deep. I guess compared to a compact bar they are deep, but they seem more like traditional drops to me. Noodles are 140mm and I doubt anyone considers those deep.

I think for the purposes of this discussion, that “deep drop” is anything that isn’t compact or uggoergo. I could be wrong though.

Oh, that makes sense. Carry on then.

we already have a word for that. “round.”
