sorry for the bad photo

shartQ: am I way off base for thinking that the local nonprofit bike co-op is asking way too much for their parts? it’s not like their stuff is generally very nice. seems like they put the higher end/better condition stuff on the complete bikes they sell to folks. the last few times I’ve gone I’ve left without buying anything because it seems like really expensive junk

I was trying to figure out why tubes needed to be ā€œThomā€ resistant, but the kerning is weird.

Those prices don’t look off the wall to me, but I wouldn’t be expecting high end stuff. You can get a new Kalloy Uno stem from the rain forest for $19.

Yeah those prices only make sense for higher end stuff. $16 for a used saddle where I’ve walked into shops and they have a bin of takeoff Bontragers for $5 each.

one could use the same device to measure the reverse version of PBH, which is also called PBH and stands instead for Penis Ball Hang

I forgot Jones was still a thing until I logged on to tarck

the prices for used tubes especially are silly, but some of the others (lock, crankset) are ok

I had to pay $15/ea for some grimey no name quill stems from my local coop. They are a non profit and all but damn did that sting.

Second the Easton recommendation. I’ve had one for over 4 years and it’s never creaked, doesn’t piss me off during install, and has a nice amount of flex (far better than getting rail’d by Thomson).

i found some gems at bikestogether over the years, but they once had some weird 20 minute max browsing limit that was unfriendly to bicycle weirdos like me who wanted to look at everything before leaving.

the best thing i ever found there were some suntour power thumbies back in 2016 or so. at the time i was a broke bike commuter that didn’t know or care about components but was in the process of putting flat bars on my sole bicycle and needed some shifters. they told me they’d have to charge me like twice as much because they were ā€œniceā€ even though they were in the bin with everything else

We just give shit away or ask for a koha if they have any money. Its up to them mostly. Clientele is largely refugees and very poor people.

They say ā€˜every safety regulation is written in blood’.

Ya gotta wonder what uncomfortable situations caused that rule.

Late reply but I have a Mk6 and really love it, might be my all time favorite bike. It’s more rigid modern enduro bike than big bmx imo, but that’s what I use it for. Have no problem riding most single black tech lines here in BC. I run it 29+, 27.5+, and mullet and it’s great in all three. Definitely needs plus tires at low (single digit) pressure to get the most out of it off road. I’ve only done a tiny bit of bikepacking on it but worked great for that too. It’s like a comfy hybrid (with big slow tires) that you can ride down seriously gnarly stuff.

I bet if you don’t send shit this big on it, it won’t bend the fork.

Well fuck, thanks for the reply. Was somewhat hoping someone would say they’re not that great and I could quit the dither.

Looks like pre-order opens up for the MK8 next month…

I want to beat him with my pedal wrench till he stops talking
