Did you just ShartQ?

It’s surprising that the complete Athena pair is priced at $197 while just the silver left and right replacement levers would cost $146. The swap and sell makes much more sense now.
$265 (Record 11) + $197 (Athena) = $462 - (resale value of Athena with carbon levers)
$265 (Record 11) + $146 (Athena silver levers only) = $411 & some carbon levers taking up space in the parts bin

Have you tried this? Would there be any rubber hood compatibility issues?
Looks like the cost of this option is $197 for the complete Athena shakes, $208 for the Record bodies (total $408) but then I would just have Powershift guts in the parts bin instead of another set of shakes I could possibly sell.

Post-2015 cable pull is different, but almost everything pre-2015 is cross compatible, so you can use an 8 speed derailleur with an 11 speed shifter with basically no problems. I don’t personally know what will work with 34t, but I expect you could research the chain wrap capacity of the long cage models and figure out how it’ll do.

Am I just weird or would a pretty easy solution be to just buy a 5800 group and the 34t cassette that fits on a 10sp hub

No you’re exactly right.

Ultrashift and Powershift use different hoods. I’ve never done a swap like this but it seems possible. Campy utilizes a lot of the same parts across models, to such an extent that I couldn’t actually tell you what the differences are between certain models. Ergo and pre-2015 blades were totally swappable, so I expect post-2015 would be the same.

I floated this idea, I still think it’s the best and cheapest. Getting into the Campy rabbit hole is not advised.

That requires no dithering. Tarck is about complicating your drivetrain.

Speaking of dithering I decided to trade some parts for a canti rawland, those red ones, the first ones? I wanted one so bad when I was a poor college kid so I guess dreams do come true? I have no wheels for it though so I guess I need to sell more things and figure that out

those ones are truly crosschecks with bigger tire clearance

Does anyone remember those Xootr/Swift folding bikes? I’m looking at buying one for minivelo type duty. Getting tired of lugging a big bike up the stairs.
I remember them as being pretty ok, and using regular bike components, but I never rode one.

Folders are more of a pain in the ass to carry up stairs atmo

I mean I’m not going to actually fold it every time. It’s a 20” wheel bike. Didn’t seem that different from a SUNDEAL

its more of an added weight + inherent weird/less ergonomic for carrying shape of folders

I think it’s still gonna beat the hell out of a 40lb crosscheck with a basket. I haul our tandem up the three flights on the reg.

I have an old Dahon folder that never gets used unless my mother in law is in town, and even then rarely. You’re welcome to it on a semipermanent basis.

and lets not forget i got this sweet ibis minicrosscheck. with hydros. and 150mm cranks.

This is a question without a simple answer, but:

how come none of the bagmakers who supplied the fixed gear youth of the 2000’s have successfully pivoted to doing bikepacking shit?

Like, it’s weird that there aren’t at least a few danglebong setups with like, Chrome framebags or Reload gastanks, right?

They’re busy with their current product lines? they all made ill considered swings into streetwear and didn’t ahve the time or money to make stuff that their entire customer base suddenly wanted very much?
