Should I build a dumb brake-less vintage track bike?
I wouldnât wanna ride brakeless, but if you donât mind, and it wonât be a $ sink for something youâd rather ride/buy/build then yeah.
SQ I have a rawland demiporteur and want to mount it to cantilever bosses. Does someone make the correct strut for this?

I know I have the original struts somewhere, and if nothing else I could run it p-clamped, but to the studs seems stronger.
I bet the little L-shaped pieces that the sun lite canti rack mounts with would do the job.

IIRC the sunlite L pieces are riveted on.
Iâm positive you can find a ready made L bracket somewhere to go between the strut and the brake stud.
Could also try punching out the rivet, but not sure I wanna sacrifice even a cheap sunlite rack. Hardware store l bracket didnât even cross my mind.
i like using a chopped up IS to PM disc adaptor and a correspondingly longer bolt for the brake
Someone else posted these the other day. Maybe theyâd work?
@johnasavoia this is exactly what I used with my rawland rack. I had a bent sunlite (not sure how anyone uses this rack withOUT bending it) and so I just pried the steel L brackets off of the aluminum rack. Itâs that cheap where they came off pretty easy without drilling etc.
This is perfect!!! Thank you!
Iâm starting to think my direct from China âsunlite rackâ was a knockoff. Was definitely riveted and I never bent it. It did snap in two carrying +25lbs of tools and lunch across Berkeley tho.
I ordered a bunch of Sunlite racks at the repair shop I was at and put one on every canti bike I had. Surprisingly never broke one even when one of my buff leg homies sat on it. It bent but yeah
Years ago they were rivited, only started coming with nutted angle-able struts maybe a couple years ago? Probably both kinds kicking around. Tang is cheap no matter which version. I usually replace em with something from the hardware store.
Is 1 wrap of Stanâs rim tape enough if I am using tubes?
it will work, ya.
if you have tape available it doesnât hurt to wrap twice for longevity sake
