Endpoint bikes (and Outpost) thread

If you know you want to fork dither, NM 9/8 sizeway feels pretty limited in terms of aftermarket.

I am definitely concerned about that

I suppose I should say part of the interest in the NM is the fork/rack setup and especially now that the fork is lighter it may be less of an issue but I haven’t ridden a full fat steel fork in a while

I’ve been down the 9/8 Hunter Gatherer fork dither path and it came down to 2 options for plastic

Cinq Touring Fork

Ritchey Adventure Fork

  • Ritchey has no fork crown mount for light, just the side adventure cage holders.

  • Cinq has fork crown hole for light, but they say no rack.

  • Ritchey is 12mm standard but with adapter can run 15mm hubs. The Cinq website is out-of-date, i think the current model is 12mm axle standard and you can fit 15mm with Adapter as well.

Similar struggle:

I bought the Cinq because H/G fork just felt heavy in terms of steering and overall weight. It’s ok, bike feels completely different with mid-trail carbon fork.

But after using carbon for awhile I’m now also kind of tired or not having an easy rack / bag solution.

If i had any desire to rebuild my 650b wheels to 12mm I would have bought a search light fork already and swapped it out.

Alright, im_in.gif

Bought the XXL and gettin that custom candy flip to make Paul Wall proud. Super hyped! First one was v good, hyped to have one that fits better, looks cooler, weighs less etc

Can you mount a nitto m18 to Cinq fork?

@cheese CG from MD - XL HTA is 72.5, with Search Light fork (70mm offset) and 700x35 = Mechanical Trail 35mm (low trail), swap with Rodeo fork (40mm offset) 60mm trail. Issues with this dithering setup is Spork is internal hose routing. No.9 MCX Fork has external cable routing. Also I’m thinking out loud to myself

Yeah it looks like it could work.

but

there is no experience of loading the hole which is intended only for the lamp holder.
So any damages caused by using the fork like this is no warranty.

This whole thread makes my day. We just put more materials on order to maintain but thank you all for the interest in the new frames.

And here I thought I missed an email.

Thanks! I already ordered without the bundle rack, so I’ll get in touch about it.

Ok, so the light is cantilevered out over the front of the wheel, so the forces are going to be twisting. The rack is cantilevered out over the front wheel, so the forces are going to be linear compression as it tries to rotate around the fork mounts. Unless you’re carrying bundles of firewood or cases of beer I can’t see how using a properly installed front rack is any worse than a crown mounted light.

you aren’t wrong. I’m sure would have been fine.

But I got pissy thinking I needed to babysit a fork on a steel adventure bike. Just something else to worry about. So I took it as a sign I was headed the wrong direction.

The downside of having a bike that’s good for a million things is that you can set it up a million different ways and get lost in the dither. Think I was putting too much focus on trying to make it better at faster rides, instead of just focusing on letting it be the adventure / carry shit bike and building up a faster pavement / brevet bike.

For example

HY all this new DayRuiner chat inspired me to get back to the roots. Re-installed H/G fork and Milkcrate rack this morning and snuck outside for a quick afternoon underbike in the woods. Steel fork felt great!

I’ve been tossing around the idea on replacing my Salsa Vaya with a Hunter Ditherer for years now. Haven’t been able to justify that swap, but always love seeing everyone’s builds.

Has anyone used this IS to flat mount adapter on one of the FBM generation Coffee Grinders with IS disc tabs on the chainstay?

I know I could print out the fit test diagram, but I would need to find a printer first, which would take a bit.
