Executive Assistant Jackass of the Day

So this guy, who I know personally to be a complete tool, apparently has a youtube channel full of his own bike videos. He calls himself “the Denvercyclist” and inherited leadership of one of the more popular group rides in town, only to promptly run it into the ground.

This video showed up on leddit today and they’re tearing him up. Watch the video, watch some of his other videos. This guy is doing nothing but bad things for the cycling community at large, and pretty much everyone in Denver that I know would just simple like for him to go away.

Ugh
He blows red lights in his videos
It really is a matter of time I suppose

Ha. I used to live in that neighborhood. That is not really a hill, and it is also an absolutely shitty road to ride on. There’s a fairly pleasant mup two blocks south of his starting point that goes directly to the street he turns on at the end. What is supposed to be impressive about that?

He’s totally delusional and a danger to everyone around him. He runs the “Loops” ride on Tuesday, which I went to exactly once. It was raining it’s ass off (which is fine) and then he proceeded to take us on Speer/1st right at St. Paul street heading west, in the traffic lane, during rush hour in the rain, and kept in the left lane.

NEVER. AGAIN.

lol
“passing a 4k road bike uphill” -> “passing a 4k road bike by blowing a red, then getting caught on the next hill”

Guy is cat 6 all the way
He’ll learn one way or another
Or just continue to be stubborn

yelling “lose the gears” at a stranger

incredible

This guy is an incredible piece of work too. Not only does he own a roedbiek with gears, but he’s that guy who never takes his cleats, kit, or helmet off. Sometimes my (much more reasonable, safe, and chilled out) group ride will start at the same brewery as his, and he’s in full kit, with his helmet and clear glasses on inside the bar. He’ll sit there for an hour with his helmet on. I don’t understand.

Dude, he’s a cyclist.

kmc
I really recommend this book to you.

nope

edit: I’m not sure how that’s even relevant to this topic? I’m not mad, I’m laughing!

A big part of the book is that people get caught in negative thought cycles and feed certain kinds of emotions and responses more than others, making the set of emotions that they practice the one that they default to in most situations.
Based on most of the stories you share here I think that you have a stunted capacity for empathy and compassion because you spend a lot of time denigrating others for disagreeing with you, doing things differently than you would, being a park ranger ect… I think that you would find more joy and ease in your life if you cultivated other kinds of emotional responses.

i would hesitate before I came to any conclusions and suggested potential remedies in the context of postings on an internet message board populated to mostly surly bicycle nerds. a message board with a celebrated culture of negative bias

also, we are discussing a video of a guy who is clearly a complete tool and deserves denigration

Bro I’m trolling

I gather what the roadie guy meant by making him look bad is he blew through the light where he was waiting. Roadie guy probably continued waiting at the light and still easily passed him at the end when he was huffing and puffing.

I mean…

Where do you even start with that? My knees hurt just watching the shadow of this rider, then he actually LOSES his little make believe competition, but his head is so far up his ass that he can’t even see it.

Literally no single person watched this video and thought “this guy looks awesome!”

Seattle italia

Look at the way he wrapped his tt bars

Until he was fired last week for gross incompetence, I was working with a 2006-style fixie kid, who ardently insisted that fixed gears were faster than road bikes. He went out on a road ride around Mercer Island with one of the fast guys at work, and he disappeared after the first hill.

Same kid also claimed that, where he was from, in Ft. Collins, Colorado, there were no cyclists, so he and his friends held all the Strava KOMs. In Fort Collins.

Ft. Collins, from what I understand, has a thriving and very fit cycling community.
