Fender chat chat

I’m gone but I had a beg arsed breakfast there on my way out of Berlin

Anyone making decent metal fenders that would cover some 26" DTHs? I have plastic fenders on my paramount and now that I finally mounted the rear light onto the fender, the mounting bolt rubs on the tire whenever I go over any sort of inconsistencies.

Add another stay?

Velo orange, planet bike. Electra but you’ll have to build your own stays.

Oh cool, figured the VO ones would be too narrow!

Thank you for having a good answer to all my dumb questions!

I ordered some Honjo fenders on that $38 or whatever it was Soma sale. They still haven’t sent me shipping confirmation, which is BS.

First Homjos. I’ve had SKS, VO, Tanaka, but never the esteemed Honjo.

They’re super nice! They shape by hand easier than other metal fenders too so you can finesse a perfect line.

Unless you get the flat ones

Spent so much time rereading the velolumio blog trying to figure out what I was doing wrong

I re-radiused some 26" to fit 27.5" from that guide but I didn’t have the patience to do it right and then I found out me rear fender was waaaaaay to wide for the seat stay bridge :frowning:

Get you some PDW fenders for your discontinued REI ebike.

Why are these always for 3in tires…

going to finally get some fenders for my '80s touring bike, which was designed for 27x1.25s (630x32s) and is currently running 700x35c gravel king SKs (measured 36 wide) – I want to nab some berthouds as I like how they look and how they mount (the one on the back of my wife’s Stumpy is indeed indestructible) but i see that the 40mm ones supposedly max out at 32c. Should I go ahead and get some Igor 45mm fenders or are the 40mm Berthouds going to be fine? This is mostly a winter-city-riding question than a dirt touring one, but I am always an idiot and always get up to mischief.

It was a while ago but I’m pretty sure I rode 40mm Marathons with Berthoud fenders. It was a little tight. Berthouds have a rolled edge that you can pry open to run dyno wire. I pinched the edge down with pliers to get a few extra mm’s of clearance on the sides.

TLDR: you can make Berthouds work but it would be easier to buy VO’s.

I’m running 38 Gravelking slicks on one bike with 50mm Berts and wouldn’t recommend trying the 40mm ones even with those slightly narrower tires. I’ve had the 45mm VO fenders on another bike with 36 WTB Exposures and that worked real nice.

Buy the 45mm Igor fenders. Or maybe get fancy and buy those and some 40mm Bert stays/hardware and do a little bending (of the stays) and drilling (of the fenders). The predrilled holes in the fenders probably won’t line up between the two.

as an update I got the 40mm berthouds as it seemed better to fit the fenders to the frame and make the tires work then max out the tires to the frame and then ??? to the fenders. Got these lined up with my old 28s kicking around. I re-mounted my 35s just to see and they fully rub everywhere so the 28s have returned. This '80s touring bike is getting increasingly '80s touring bike in style. I also need to find a longer fork-mount bolt than this little M4 I have so I’ll tear off the shipping tape then. Excited to get the rear on today!
