Fenderbuildin' part 1

The only ones I see people make are just old 2 liters. Anyone ever make full fenders? Get me into making some.

This is probably the easiest method.

Thanks, I was actually trying to find that or something similar!

I think they are pretty uggo, but free is good I guess.

I bought some shifters from a boat builder dude once who made his own crabon saddles. He showed me all of his molds and shit. Pretty cool. I think fenders would be a pretty cool application for DIY crabon because the commercially available ones (Berthoud, Bruce Gordon) are crazy expensive, and as parts go fenders aren’t exactly load bearing, so who cares if they asplode?

making some fenders now, but they will be aluminum.

I’ve thought about D. Salmon-style fenders out of 28" bass drum hoops

Maybe with some hardware from VO?

Flat fenders suck for real rain, but it could be a fun project.

that poor eddy.

pssh. kent peterson is a bigger badass on a bike than you’ll ever dream of being. that eddy was likely ridden in multiple 1200km brevets.

ok? i still think his bike is stupid. nothing personal.

dang, that’s a pretty good idea. won’t necessarily be the cheapest, but it’s something that you put together.

There’s just no reason to pity a Merckx that gets ridden hard. Better an ugly looking Merckx that’s used than a pretty one that gets photographed for the internet.

just buy my tanaka stainless steel fenders, undrilled so will work hella good with any bike

$40

hy i’m making my own for the fuji

Haven’t put it on yet, need to find an efficient way to make holes, as well as the time
and… i have to learn to wheelie first

This thread is gonna make me follow through with my badass fender making photo tutorial.

call me a hater
i dont like it

ive had an idea in my head for building fenders for a while… never followed through with it though.

long radius conduit bends, either pvc or thinwall steel. find a bend and diameter that fits over the wheel and trim it from a tube into a fender. drill holes and use traditional fender hardware. and its done.

also, most fabrication shops can bend metal tubing with any radius that you want. get that, cut it, done. only problem with this idea is that the conduit or tubing costs more than a pair of planet bike fenders.

me either. it’s a free country and all, but if you can afford to do a 1200km brevet, you can afford some sks/vo/honjo.

fenders = $50
dignity = priceless

And heavier + more brittle.

I was all about the idea of making fenders out of lexan sheet byt heating it up over a mandrel until I realized that unless they weighed a ton they’d crack immediately.

Ghetto carpet fiber is really a perfect material for homebrew fenders

fiberglass might be a good alternative to carpet fiber

or vacuum form some abs plastic, could make some super full coverage fenders like some of the dutch bikes have

anyone ever try using an old tire and some wire
