holy shit gear range.
Rival went from silver allow levers to black carbon levers.

SRAM’s new Apex group offers wider gear range, faster shifting, and lighter weight, and the first 11-32 cassette for road (the RD can be used with RED, Force and Rival for tackling nearly any climb)

this is AWESOME. i think i will pick up the RD and cassette when it comes.
Crank got lighter and lever throw for front shifting got shorter.
this is cool, my one gripe with rival, though I think my bike isn’t set up correctly.
ird makes an 11-34 and 11-32 10spd cassette and a shimano xt rear der works with the 105/ultegra/dura ace.
deore/lx/slx/xtr should work too, but i have only tried xt.
wide gear ratio is nothing new…

SRAM’s APEX group
SRAM has announced plans to release a new entry level road group, intended to compete against Shimano’s 105 group, in the spring of 2010.
SRAM’s new Apex group sports many of the same features that appear in the company’s other offerings, including its DoubleTap brake and shift levers, Zero-Loss shifting and Exact Actuation.
SRAM has labeled the group’s features under the banner of WiFLi – Wider, Faster and Lighter: Wider in that the crankset and cogs offer a wider range of gears (with inside chainrings down to 34 teeth and cassettes with as many as 32); Faster, because the system is still based on a double, rather than a triple, crankset and Lighter, because the company lists its group weight at 2435 grams, about 150 grams lighter than 105.
The company is expected to ship its first Apex groups to manufacturers in April and bike shops should see the first shipments around June. SRAM has not released suggested retail pricing.
Somehow TAF
bump. do want. anyone got this group for sub $600?? so far ive only found it on repartocorse for 649 which is a little too close to totalcyclings rival price…
i’m planning on building an Apex biek soon. v curious on a cheapish group as well
Apparently every bike made by every manufacturer for 2011 is going to have Apex on it. Or at least that’s what is feels like after looking at the Specialized line for next year.
Friend of mine test rode an Apex grouped Specialized bike tonight. Looked real good.
