Sram is releasing a new budget groupset in October called Apex. It will be similar in quality to Shimano 105. No other details yet, but check back with procyclingtalk for updates.
would like before october pls
I’m liking the looks of this. Of course, I’m sure it’ll be out of my price range for a year or two.
I dunno man, sub-Rival should be pretty cheap, especially after a couple months when retailers start having sales to drum up cash flow. Unless your budget is like $200.
But why October? Why not right before spring, when there’s a mad rush to build bikes after the winter? Let hype build up?
curious to see how much with QBP
My budget is like $200.
if not racing, i’d do bar end shifters. but maybe apex is a way to get sram on more complete bikes to wet people’s appetite for higher up sram.
scott haz a serotta and a budget of 200 dollars.
Its main reason for existing is so manufactures can hit price points with OEM build kits.
me thinks.
on vsal they said it’s cos prices going up on all the other groups
How much differently can APEX be in comparison to the Rival group?!
The American economy, slowly but surely will be back towards the pre-September 11th days so I think this is just a waste of time/ money SRAM could of placed towards R&D, marketing, etc.
Veloce can be had for about 1/2 a G, if APEX were to be half that, I’d be all over this like a pig in shit!
Why spend the money on a group when people are just giving away Serottas?
That der looks like it has a super long cage. Triple crank option?
I see this as a competitor for tiagra. They have a lock on the 105 level stuff (although Rival is usually about $400 more than 105 on a given frame). I think they are getting pressure to produce a $1500 SRAM bike from a major name.
Also, October release is perfect for cross. Not a huge market, but it’s the only reason I can think of.

pretty damn close: http://www.rei.com/product/796397
Hadn’t seen that. But that bike would be $1300 with 105.
If they really are going to raise the prices of the other groups, they better improve rival a bit.
The caad 4 does have force cranks as well, something to consider.

i’d imagine so, now that force just got it’s update, now its rivals turn. the last update wasnt much more then cosmetic, going from silver to black.
Not an improvement IMO.
[quote]SRAM’s new Apex group offers wider gear range, faster shifting, and lighter weight, and the first 11-32 cassette for road (the RD can be used with RED, Force and Rival for tackling nearly any climb)
