Framebuildin' part 3

dithering

Sw8! Fillet?

I’ve been dithering about doing a cross frame in time for the fall. 1x and rim brakes, but can’t decide if I want lugs or fillet and if I do fillet if it should have a 44mm headtube. Also whether or not I should do s-bend stays if all I’m going to run in it are ~32c race tires anyways…

yeah this will be my first fillet frame.
S-bend kinda sucks because the stays cost so much more but I think they look so much more pro in use.
I can’t decide if i want to use them on the seat stays too. I kind of want to just because they are cool looking but I don’t think I need to for clearance
edit- I am using them it will make the fenders fit lot more cleanly.

also I think all the true temper tubing pdfs are in inches
WHY THE SHIT IS THIS

Rim brakes? No need for 44 on a steel frame unless you are planning to use an off the shelf carbon tapered fork- and no need for that unless you are running disk.

Some none 44 head tube action for a steel disc forked job-

Loving the word filter, loving the brazing. Good Job Eric!

I guess a fork does poke a head tube.

fork

Weird.

Eric reply to email plz

That’s what I was thinking. Enve straight 1 1/8" canti forks are still readily available so I’ll probably go that route.

yup, lighter and they ride way better, imo

my enve tapered disc (road) fork is a tank

edit - oh you weren’t even talking to me.
i agree though that good 1 1/8 forks ride as well as tapered.

My comment holds- unless you have a driver to push 44 (or bigger) head tubes, they are not needed as a default.

I think I finally figured out how to math. True temper s bend stays.

now I have to figure out how to build with and miter these swoopy bitches.

Buy 2 sets.

these stays are already like half of my steel budget.
I probably don’t need to be fuckin around with s3 for this one do I?

DQ: My old trek has a fork that was re-raked to lowtrailbro. Can I get it re-raked back to where it used to be? Is it something I can attempt to do myself by building a simple jig? Should I do one leg at a time or both?

The bike has lots of tire clearance, except for the vertical clearance at the fork due to the lowtrailbro mod. I decided to not waste money on 650b since there’s so little rim options for rim brake. It should fit 700cx32 originally and that’s more than I need.

new fork from soma would cost less than trying to build a fork de-raker.

You don’t need anything fancy, you could u-bolt both legs to a sturdy workbench.
