Air in the argon line? Loose fitting?
I double checked and swapped everything from the tank to the machine with spares that I have.
Did some messing around with the torch, straightened out the hose as much as possible, swapped the back cap and actually got some slight improvement. I’m thinking I’ve just cooked the torch over time and it’s not sealing or it’s leaking somehow. I have definitely exceeded the 150DC/120AC rating a few times.
If I had more disposable income at the moment I’d buy a water cooler, a CK torch and be done with it. I’m gonna go to the everlast distributor today and just get another one of their torches. Last one was good for two years so whatever.
Well fuck me.
New torch hasn’t done shit. Even with the new consumables that came with it. At this point I’ve tried changing everything out except the welder itself.
Some samples on mild steel, stainless and aluminum I sent to Everlast Canada tech support.
Definitely looks like a gas coverage problem. Odd.
OK, probably not the problem at all, but this happened to me once and had me stumped for a while. The face of my regulator bent and was keeping the needle stuck where I had set the flow, which was far above where it wanted to indicate at the time.
What does the it sound like when the gas is coming out of the end of the torch? That’s the thing that finally led me to check the regulator is I could hardly hear any gas coming out.
Do you have compressed air handy? Can you blow out all the gas lines?
Yeah I can blow out the lines though I’ve tried two regulators (I had a spare), and I replaced the line from the regulator to the machine. By changing the torch I’ve replaced that side of the equation as well.
I’m at a loss to be honest. I agree it looks like a gas issue. I wonder what the odds are I got two contaminated cylinders?
Are you running a gas lens in your torch?
Tested with a gas lens and with a regular collet body with various flow rates. For some reason I got marginally better results with a collet body. In the past I always used a gas lens with excellent results.
What kinda flowmeter setup you running? Pics?
DQ but you do actually have gas, right
like you didn’t swap your contaminated or empty tank with an empty tank from work
I was very confused one time when I swapped an empty for an empty
Any bay area jawns know where to get a disc brake tab welded on a fork? Called a bunch of local frame builders with no luck.
No luck as in nobody picked up the phone. Ed litton is close to my workplace. Need to find his shop

I’d be hesitant to add a disc tab to some fork not designed with one in mind
Oh yeah, I paid good money for a full tank.
That’s my usual regulator, dual for backpurge if I feel it’s necessary.
This is the one that came with my machine, I swapped it back on to rule out an issue with the other one.
Damet
Everlast distributor offered to take my setup to test it. Going to try and get the afternoon off so I can bring it there. Good thing they’re so close.
Had a thought I might try before I pack it all up. Unhook the gas connection to the torch and hit the pedal. If I see any flow from the regulator I’ll know if there’s a significant leak inside the machine.
If it’s a big clunky MTB fork you might be ok
but maybe just buy one off eBay
what headset size?
1 inch i believe
There seens to be sone offerings from surly for disc brake forks
